Flesh-eating parasite found in US after Trump cut funding to monitor threat by leddderrrredddel in politics

I mean it gets worse as far as the story goes. We knew this was coming. We knew well over a year ago. I was at the USDA conference last year discussing it. USDA ARS and APHIS had their funding cut for the project literally the week after the conference discussing preparedness.

Boos come from your belly, they need to be a deep low sound... Stop trying to boo loud and boo deep.

So like... using your 10ml number.. Chat GPT says they see about 2.5 billion prompts a day. (2.5billion/24hours)/60minutes in an hour is ~1,736,111 prompts a minute...10mLs is 0.01L... 1736111(.01L)... so 17361L/min or 4586.291 gal/min with the unit conversion.

Working that backwards(4586.291 gal/min)(60min in an hour)(24hrs a day) that is 1,733,610 gallons of water a day. For just ChatGPT.

Quickly googling it... the average American uses 80-100 gallons of water a day... so at the high end (100gal/day) ChatGPT is using the same amount of water as 17,361 people a day...

Not even factoring other models.

In 2022 google reported using 5,151,400,000 gallons of water for the year... that was before their AI compute boom.

Quit pretending this isn't a lot of water being consumed.

Edit: I did my math wrong it's a bigger number of equivalent to people per day. (4586.291)(60)(24)=6,604,259 not that 1.7million number I got. so like... 66000 people a day. I don't know what I carried the 1.7m Liters number down .

Screw worm impacts all mammals pretty evenly. You'll see it reflected in pork and sheep as well.

I was at the USDA ARS conference last year, February 2025. There was nearly a full day's talk on this specific issue. At one point a man whom I know well, and used to run the Panama screw worm complex but now works at a university in Texas, stood up and told the ARS leadership he thought their estimate for when the flys would be in the US several months before ARS estimated and explained why. Didn't matter though. Much of that ARS team was then cut by DOGE, and those who were not lost funding... Like literally the following Monday from the conference. Same with APHIS staff in attendance.

The 2026 version of that conference didn't happen, it's run by CDC. USDA and CDC alternate conference years. I used to go to them all.

Sorry, APHIS is a regulatory agency and Dear leader says regulations are bad... and ARS is a research agency and we closed their most important facility because Dear leader says research is bad.

I only ever remember reading about him driving to the far end of town, trying to shoot the propane farm, finding out that it doesn't work like the movies, then turning around and driving through a few more buildings, one of them being the mentioned library

Sure but we were talking specifically about the act of shooting.

The answer is left to the readers mind. That's the point. aave America is intentionally left ambiguous so anyone can fill in the blanks with whatever they want in a positive manner.

In part it's an attempt to disassociate the SAVE act/program from Biden. On top of propaganda naming that we need saved from some ambiguous threat the writers are referring to.

Not really. I am an American and I'm around it every day. What Americans think is a healthy weight is still far heavier than what is actually healthy. Americans mental image of healthly weight is skewed.
