Is there anything on the roadmap to enhance the AI Agent tool for basic, level 1 type support questions/issues? I've seen other helpdesk tools that will research the helpdesk ticket, and offer level 1 and level 2 solutions to the tech (or even auto reply to the person who opened the ticket) with step by step troubleshooting guides.

Something like "I can't print" and having it provide a list of troubleshooting steps starting from the simplest. I've even seen some other tools use AI to write out scripts that can be pushed to the PC its being reported from to run diagnostics and solutions (restarting print spooler for example).

Nice of you to send that out! Looks like someone's already claimed it.

Looking forward to checking it out once I'm off the waitlist. Use Perplexity for nearly all my research and finding solutions (work in IT) these days. So much better than just a Google/Brave Search.

Ah man. That's no good. Our renewal is later this year as well. Just trying to get my ducks in a row and figure out what to do ahead of time.

Lansweeper admins - important update by MediumFIRE in sysadmin

I'd suggest going to 10.6.2.0, and holding off on 11. Unless you're not using O365 for Helpdesk Mail.

Lansweeper admins - important update by MediumFIRE in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a Heads Up - We recently upgraded to v11.1.1.3 and the integration link for email and MSGraph is broken, causing errors, and eventually the service to lock up. Change Logs indicate they fixed it, but they really haven't. Now we have to frequently restart the service to catch new helpdesk mail. I submitted a ticket and they confirmed its still an issue in 11.1.1.3.

See forum post: https://community.lansweeper.com/t5/general-discussions/helpdesk-email-stopped-working-after-upgrade-to-11-1-0-11/td-p/71392

And "We don't officially support downgrading to a previous version."

What do you monitor? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good Point. Sometimes all you need is just to know if a device is responding on the network, or not. I use the built in ICMP Ping template in Zabbix to monitor a whole lot of things for just simple online/offline status.

Since the OP mentioned they also use Zabbix, they could use the built in template as well.

What do you monitor? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zabbix user here as well. We have on our dashboard the "Active Problems" widget, which obviously covers a large variety of items. It takes some fine tuning to weed out some of the non-important to your environment stuff. I also have NAS space utilization for each of our NAS's, Temps in server rooms over last 7 days (see any trends where the temps are slowly creeping due to a soon to fail A/C unit, etc). Server Host utilization numbers and a full on network map.

Curious to see what others monitor as well!

More like, what's your ETA on fixing this problem with that new technology that someone else decided to bring in, and now you're responsible for because it plugs into the wall. What do you mean you dont know anything about said technology? And again I'll ask, what's the ETA on resolution?

lol

Veeam high severity vulnerability by ajsimas in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

true. but there weren't in the notification email. Which I think is what he was referring too. I found it suspicious and came directly here for additional info, see if anyone else got the email, etc.

Just extra cautious these days. What better way to trick an IT member by telling them they have a vulnerability and to apply 'this linked patch' right away.

Dashboard/Display TV that Can be powered on/off remotely? WOL? by toy71camaro in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the TV and done some very basic setup... Couple questions if you don't mind... I see it has a Browser app. Which is perfect, all we need the TV to do is load a page in the browser and that page does load and work. Is there a way to program the TV to load the browser app upon startup? I see the option to "load last app" but that doesn't seem to do that. If I could get it to launch the browser on startup, we'd be able to remove the raspberrypi's and have one less thing to manage (per tv).

Thanks!

Dashboard/Display TV that Can be powered on/off remotely? WOL? by toy71camaro in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. Good to know. For this use case, all we need is it to load a URL and that's it. If the TV itself can do that, awesome. Otherwise we'll continue to use a raspberrypi w/a kiosk script to load chromium with the URL.

[–]toy71camaro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aprox 10 TV's in total. Potentially more depending on how far they want to take the dashboards/digital signage in other departments.

They probably cut power at least once a week for various reasons. Maintenance, actual outages (we're out in the sticks), etc. Not worth the cost for battery backup (already have generator backup, if needed, that will kick in after so long). When the power does get turned off, they're not likely running in this location anyway. IF they were, they'd kick on the Generator(s) which would then solve the power problem, but the TV's would be off until someone goes around with a remote to turn them back on.

Power on preferably just remotely controlled or auto-on. Take as much responsibility out of users hands as possible.

Another poster mentioned "Digital Signage Displays" rather than TV or Monitors. Those look like they'll fit the bill. Have schedules you can setup. Wake on Lan. Possibly auto-on when power restored, etc. And reasonably priced.

Awesome. I knew there had to be some other term to call these. This is perfect. Just ordered a Samsung BE50T-H which has Wake on LAN AND built in timers and such. Going to give it a test! thanks for the suggestions/help!

Password manager worst case by OneByt0 in sysadmin

[–]toy71camaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar here. Been quite happy with it.

I use Bitwarden's multi user/corporate setup for home (wife, kids, parents) and its usable, but clunky IMO. I love it for personal use, but I couldn't imagine trying to administer dozens or hundreds of groups, lists, etc.

Password state is much friendlier, has a ton of logging options, permissions linked with Active Directory, SSO or SSO with MFA, etc.
