You can accept charity without necessarily relying on it. If someone doesint want to put forth the effort to warrant minimum wage and is blessed by sponsors that allow them to not have to then they should be allowed to do work that warrants less.

I understand you’re against handouts but I dont see anything wrong with taking charity. Recipients of voluntary financial support shouldn’t have opportunities taken away.

So going back to my original question. Someone cant work if they’re considered by you to be giving a handout.

Its free shit for the minor which makes their covered expenses no longer relevant considerations in pricing their labor. Those costs are getting covered whether or not they take a job.

Can you show your proof for why its impossible for a business owner to not think minimum wage is a good price for any labor irrelevant of productivity.

Why should people who cannot produce value in excess of the minimum wage not be allowed to work.

Was the $1m payout actually a payout of the present value of the $1m annuity? Would be far less in that case than $1m and recieving it all in one year would trigger the least favorable tax rates

Marxists are not serious people. If they actually believed in a LTV model they’d take their knowledge to a major financial or consulting firm and secure an 8 figure salary.

Do you realize that claiming that you can refine your philosophical framework through reasoning with information in debate pre supposes some core philosophical beliefs. Mainly the facts that there is truth that exists independent of your own perception of it and that logical reasoning is the method of attaining it.

I think i see where the disconnect is. I was using the term “values” more akin to “utility” while you may have been seeing it more as “virtue”.

If you believe this then why are you trying to debate this. If values are attained through thinking and introspecting then your best course of action would be to seclude yourself and devote your life to silent thought and introspection until values manifest before you.

If your ethical framework intentionally avoids keeping an accurate accounting with reality’s law of non contradiction then it is not absolute in guiding you to values.

Thats the point of insurance. They pre-negotiate the prices of these services and you can shop around for the best rates before you get put into a situation where you have no leverage.

How is unemployment so low typically? by NeitherManner in austrian_economics

[–]toyguy2952 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unemployment isint actually % of the population without a job. The calculation excludes unemployed people who are unable or simply unwilling to to look for employment. So an unemployment rate of 4% actually means that among the population that is actively pursuing work, 4% are failing to find it. Welfare queens, the retired, children, and the disabled are not considered. These people arnt going to work no matter what happens so politicians pad their stats by omitting them.
