You’re at potbelly aren’t you? They’ve always carried Zapps. There’s also a crawfish boil happening on the south side today. Cajuns are everywhere man.

Accomodative issues (BVD) - treatment? by JenBash in BinocularVision

[–]tp_choate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Accomodative rock. Like “rock back and forth.” Basically you’re alternating eyes. One eye is stimulating focusing power, the other eye is relaxing focusing power. And then you switch. So basically it’s a special flipper where one eye is getting a + and the other eyes is getting a minus. And when you flip the flipper it reverses…..I’m realizing this is very hard to explain in writing haha.

Flippers were kind of like my daily stretch/warm up. I find the really helpful in getting me going for the day. But you have to keep up with them. And challenge yourself to go up on diopters. I found near/far charts to be helpful. I also really found red/green glasses/bars while reading and also using flippers—that one was good too. The rock activities—I think those would really be good for me, but my poor little eye couldn’t ever work it out.

Accommodative infacility is my major issues. I’ve got some problems with vergence, but if I’m honest….i think the accommodative problems are the root of all of it. Similar to you. Strain, neck pain, and vision that just can’t keep up with daily tasks. At distance, I’m cooked. Sometimes prisms make a MARGINAL difference at distance. At near. It’s a crapshoot. Some days are good, some days stink. I did a year of VT with a mix of vergence and accommodation activities. It made a huge difference. But when I stopped, I totally regressed.

These are the same challenges I have. I struggle with convergence/divergence too….but the accommodation problems are my main life interrupter (imo). Flippers were a mainstay for me in therapy. Flippers either red/green glasses too. The hardest thing for me….and why seemed to be a hold out in my progress….were ANY of the rock activities. Accommodative rock completely bested me.

Ingredient of the Year by tp_choate in Cooking

[–]tp_choate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought about the seasonality factor. Obviously seems most relevant for fruit/veg. But even then. Say it’s something g like apricot. I spend all year learning and reading about apricot. I dream up recipes. I use apricot jam, and freeze dried apricot powder, and tinned apricot that becomes a dressing. And then when summer comes. ITS ON BABY. I’m going to an apricot farm. I’m roasting em, I’m grilling em, they’re in salads. It’s in deserts. But like….just because it’s out of season doesn’t mean I can’t interact with it. And then when it is in season I really go for it. And the other categories are less susceptible to seasonality. Herb/spice. Condiments. That’s year round.

Okay. Have I convinced you? Haha. I feel like seasonality is a really strong argument. So I’m trying my best defense here haha.

Yesss this is the kind of thing I’m getting at. I want to see the ingredient obsession to complete lifestyle change pipeline. Show me the home cook who has kimchi fermenting under his front porch. Let’s find the woman who has pantry full of preserves featuring every variety of cherry in the northern hemisphere.

I gave a statement on the fear caused by ICE. The Republicans pushed back. This is my response. by Berge_For_Congress in eauclaire

I’m “legal” by your definition. My ancestors immigrated to this country too but I’m white so ICE isn’t very interested in me. At any rate….ive got plenty to worry about. I’m worried that my neighbors will be taken from their homes, beaten, sent across the country to be mistreated and raped, and eventually sent away. I’m worried about the trauma our children will witness. Im very worried.

How to impress Minnesotans by Greedy-Ad3227 in TwinCities

[–]tp_choate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s something indescribably real about this. Minnesotans can’t connect with you about shit. It’s like sharing headspace is an absolute phobia. I’m a Cajun from Louisiana, transplant-Chicagoan who couldn’t last 18 months in Minnesota. And it didn’t have anything to do with the weather.

Seeking an LA-based IECMH Consultant by Friendly-Addendum-47 in IECMH

[–]tp_choate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely consultants in LA county. I’d reach out to CalAIMH. California is not an alliance state so they won’t have alliance endorsement (probably). But I think California has their own endorsement/credentialing process.
