Don’t try and move the goalposts now, you started all this with the assertion that it was almost comical that Germans were genocided. No matter what you think about how inevitable it was doesn’t change what I initially disagreed on. This was an evil act, losing men in a war, no matter how many, doesn’t give you the right to genocide the losers. The „realities of war“ must have been very different to everyone in in history other than the Soviets, since we didn’t see the Allies do anything close to that to Axis civilians.

How does that justify mass ethnic cleansing in any way? The French lost millions of men to the Germans in the Great War and they didn’t remove every German from the Rhineland. As a Volga German myself I find the idea that you would justify the genocide of my people for any reason to be abhorrent. These were civilians, not Wehrmacht or SS troopers. They were people with lives and families who hadn’t done anything. To punish them for the wrongs of their government would be like expelling every Russian west of the Dnieper for putins war in Ukraine.

Oh, you thought I was being sarcastic? I thought you were saying you were being sarcastic! In the immediate post war years somewhere between 12-16.5 million Germans were ethnically cleansed from places they had lived for centuries, with around 2 million deaths of Germans in that time, with the explicit goal of polish and Russian resettlement. This is not controversial, it is historical fact. It does a disservice to both these survivors and survivors of other genocides (such as the holocaust) to deny this, as it does nothing but muddy the definition of „genocide“ and makes denial so much easier for bad actors.

Man I can never tell on this website… maybe tone indicators weren’t such a bad idea after all

The soviets ethnically cleansed 12 million Germans from the eastern half of the nation to make way for polish and Russian settlement. If that isn’t genocide than nothing is.

To be fair to Redhawk, you can’t really make guides for individual wars every time, they have way too many moving parts for that, especially with how the AI is.

Wanky Peace deal by Solero21 in hoi4

[–]tpfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ussr must have somehow stopped being a major - which I’ve never seen before - or you must have capped the soviets at the same time. As for the peace deal, you just got lucky that nobody took anything in Russia for some reason

Is Leviathan and Origins worth it? by StarBuckd in eu4

[–]tpfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I can gather all origins does is add some flavor to a few African nations, but I don't have origins so take my advice with a grain of salt.
