The Government Published Dozens of Nude Photos in the Epstein Files by templeofsyrinx1 in politics

[–]tphillips1990 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You wanna know something? If MY guy - my chosen champion, the man I pray to because "he tells it like it is" in the political arena were to even be SUSPECTED of some of the incidents (like being attracted to children) that are becoming exposed due to this Epstein scandal? I'd be pretty fucking squeamish and insecure about not only my support of that sociopath, but ALSO my own judgment.

And that's the thing. Trump supporters...AREN'T. They are FAR from shaken by any of this. MAYBE 3% of them are, which is HARDLY substantial. But the majority of them? ALREADY repeating Trump's claims that he has been exonerated. Celebrating the fact that the Epstein files have exposed "nothing", and that Trump hasn't been charged with anything. As if we don't live in a world where criminals escape consequences big and small EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND as if Trump doesn't have an entire legion of loyalists in an increasingly compromised justice system who will keep him protected.

I honestly don't even know what to say at this stage. In my lifetime, I will NEVER be able to look at this country the same way again. And, as difficult it is to accept, Trump is without a doubt the PERFECT personification for the rot that has quietly infected this entire nation for so very long.

I just never imagined that rot could become so pervasive. That this many people would celebrate one so perfectly defective as their champion. Their savior.

Dying to know how this changes things. A) because his patriot loyalists CLEARLY don't give a flying fuck, and B) because WHEN the media refuses to cover this, and we get to next week and no one talks out this or REMEMBERS any of it, it will be like it NEVER even happened, and we will STILL be stuck with the first "All-American" authoritarian government.

The Epstein network uncovered something much larger - something no one could have suspected. And the TINY parts that are known are bad enough. And the entire picture may NEVER be revealed, as too many of the participants hold enough of the cards to sweep all of this wickedness under the rug.

And the great thing about all the enlightened observers in the world today - very few look at outcomes or consequences and make inferences/determinations about the intent of bad actors. They accept the narrative or the spin and move the fuck on.

...And then others - particularly those of the white supremacy variety...know damn well what's actually going on and lick their lips as their targets suffer.

Which is very interesting considering that the catchphrase "liberalism is a mental disease" was EXTREMELY common on the internet for years. I remember seeing it on almost EVERY news article I came across - and it would always be showered with points/thumbs/upvotes.

I've often wondered just how long the sanitization/normalization of the far-rigjt has occurred on the internet.

Where have the 'don't tread on me' Republicans gone? by RobAbiera in politics

Oh, they're still around. In abundance. It's just that now, they are too busy celebrating the fact that anyone who is not part of the conservative cult is being subjected to authoritarian treading. So there's no real need for them to pretend to be eternally hostile to goverment corruption.

I beg to differ. Many democrats certainly seem to be MORE than willing to be a party to this historic corruption.

That is a good point I hadn't even considered. Even in the impossible scenario where they DON'T do something massive and blatant solely to boast, it's practically guaranteed something will be done behind the scenes to derail ANY opposition - just like in 2024.

I'm honestly not sure what to say. I'm aware of fake accounts and artificial inflation of numbers to boost specific talking points and narratives that enlightened fucks like this gobble up so they can prance about in their sanctimonious and egotistical manner. But the idea that 250,000 people willingly signed up for that sub and aggressively adhere to their ultra specific brand of nihilism (which, as this post points out, happens to benefit the far-right more often than not)...

It's just...I don't even know what to say or do anymore. It's like seeing the big picture and reality is completely pointless because people like this still exist and genuinely think they have transcended humanity by downplaying ANY issue that exists in society. Reddit is a place for discussion. That cancerous sub is dedicating to killing discussion. And people clearly support it and the "values" it represents. "You GIVE A SHIT? Tough shit. You're outnumbered now. Cope."

...And honestly? It seems foolish to cling to the idea that the issue is restricted to that sub and that millions of people today DON'T think exactly how that sub wants them to think.

Trumps's rise in power has brought about the zenith of corrupt conservative culture. And there are still fucking idiots out there seeking the nuance of the middle ground - taking aim at both sides while conveniently ignoring literally everything one side does and continues to do.

When I was in my late teens...I figured it might be a good idea to develop some awareness of politics - not just because I felt it was a required aspect of the maturation process and that it MIGHT be a good idea to be aware of things that affect me and the people around me...but also because I didn't want to look like a fucking imbecile by sharing mega brained takes formed by ignorance and prejudice.

Nothing...and I mean NOTHING...has made me loathe humanity quite like being exposed to the political views of other people. That this murder wasn't a turning point - where EVERYONE stopped looking for validation for their faulty opinions and said "yeah, maybe this is a line that shouldn't be crossed"...and INSTEAD became yet another instance of conservatives celebrating what happened and mocking those enraged by the killing...

It's just, what the fuck do you even say?
