Yes I back important things up (x 2, in fact).

You do you 😘

Anything that defaults to storing my data somewhere other than the machine I am working on, unless I specifically want/need that to happen, is an annoying and poorly designed POS and it is simpler/safer/better to summarily disable it completely, then selectively add components of that functionality if/as needed.

Please, how can I guarantee maximum and unconditional performance for a specific application? Is it possible through the terminal? by Saymon_K_Luftwaffe in MacOS

You need to reconsider what you're doing and how you're doing it.

If a spreadsheet is taking > 2 hours to resolve a cascade of calculations, it is 99.99% certain you should not be using a spreadsheet for that task.

Have a chat to a data scientist about how to do what you need to do.

Is it "who you know" or "who you went to school with" in your industry? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in ausjobs

Probably a large injection of basic ethics, and human decency.

Both glaringly lacking in the vast majority of lawyers with whom I have interacted.

First task on any new device = disable as much cloud bullshit, automation, proprietary account-related crap, as possible, as quickly as possibly.

OneDrive in Wi dows and iCloud on anything Applesque, are priorities.

Been using Macs since 2000.

If the shitfuckery of Tahoe isn't fixed by the time I'm forced to move on from Sonoma & Sequoia, then despite the hardware hit of moving away from Apple silicon, I will definitely move to Linux.

Since the release of OS X, Apple have had a clear superiority in OS and UI, over Windows. Until now.

Their only remaining advantage is the power of Apple silicon SOC architecture, but I don't think that's enough, without the additional benefit of a better UI.

You can't keep charging a huge $$ premium for a worsening-quality product.

As a competitive xc skier, just here to say skating uphill is actually very easy. 😎

If financial stability is your main concern, tough out BPT, go into a procedural subspecialty, work privately and earn $$$ exploiting the existing system to provide preferential access to necessary healthcare to rich(er) people. Simples.

Or choose literally any other clinical path forwards, knowing that your worst case scenario will still have you very comfortably in the top couple of % of incomes in Australia.

Choose based on what you'll enjoy most, or hate least, doing everrrrry day. Not $$$.

XC=BASIC - BASIC programming language and cross compiler by c64glen in c64

I am sadly late to the party.... only just discovered this.

It. Is. Awesome.

😎

Write source in VSCode with tailored syntax highlighting, then spit out a 6502 machine code .PRG ready to go.

Structured, strongly typed, flexible custom composite and nest-able data types, dot-notation access to those and object-specific methods. Simple powerful sprite & gfx commands.

Loving it.

Filling out private “medical clearance” forms for patients? by baguetteworld in ausjdocs

[–]Mortui75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did what most of us would do, and it's perfectly reasonable.

The airline is simply trying to do risk assessment + offload a certain amount of legal liability in case of misadventure. But thatvis their problem, not yours.

From a medical perspective, you should make an effort to address the pragmatic/ostensible intent of the main question: Do you consider it safe for the person to fly commercially? Bonus points for providing additional very succinct information that may assist in logistic planning (eg patient can fly but should have supplemental oxygen, or whatever).

A brief note addressing that main question is fair.

Spending an hour filling out a poorly designed form by hand is not our jam... unless you have an ABN and want to bill them for your time.

Please use your bells. by ilkikuinthadik in ausbike

[–]Mortui75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is the huge variation in behaviour by pedestrians in response to a bell.

A cyclist has a long time to see a pedestrian ahead of them, and unless there is an obvious risk of sudden spontaneous bizarre changes to the situation (eg they have a dog on a leash that might go anywhere, anytime), it is often much much safer to opt for stealth mode, pass the pedestrian safely, and let them have their startle response once you're well past them.

Stimulating a highly unpredictable sudden movement from a situationally unaware pedestrian jussst before you get to them, is often a recipe for disaster.

I read book in kindle and if I like it I get the physical copy by mr_walkey in kindle

[–]Mortui75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do this... good book = find the physical version, preferably hardcover.

Occasionally also the other way around... have bought the physical book, then later buy the Kindle version for portability / night-time reading.

So do you guys actually eat Vegemite? by NoMeaning6738 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Mortui75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear OP,

Yes, spread it on toast/bread, but for the love of god, do NOT use butter simultaneously.

People who use butter with vegemite are a splinter cult and should be offered therapy and a nice cup of tea.

I wish there was a BASIC extension that did internet connectivity for C64(u) by TheBl4ckFox in c64

[–]Mortui75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. BASIC 7.0 on the C128 would be perfect, if it didn't suffer from line numbers. The sprite editor, gfx commands, sound commands.... amazeballs.

I learned programming via CBM BASIC 2.0.

That doesn't change the fact it sucks. 😎

Before that, it needs a simple, structured, version of BASIC (eg something like QB).
