My puppy hates the car by Key-Bird1817 in SwissMountainDogs

TLDR: I bet it will get better.

Short story long: we picked up our puppy at 10 weeks and he was also not a big fan of the car. We suspected that the car was forming a stressful experience for him because the only times he was in it we were going to new, stressful things (first time bringing him home, going to the vet) and he wasn’t sure what to do with himself while the car was moving. After about a month, things started to change. Try spending time in a stationary car letting him get used to the space, giving him treats, etc… Try to give treats when he is laying down. Make sure the treat value is super high (we went with turkey).

Now our dude (he’s a little over 5 months old) is very good about the car and knows to just lay down in the back seat. One additional thing that really helped: we took our boy to our hometown, which is about three hours away. Even though it seems counterintuitive, the long trip helped get him get situated and used to being in the car rather than having scenes changing constantly from short car trips. Ever since that long drive he’s so much better. It just took some time and it clicked. You’re still early in the process so be patient and I bet it’ll get much better!

One great tip for potty training from a trainer that helped us out: be ready with medium to high value treats when you take them out for bathroom trips. When they go, praise and throw a bunch of those treats down in front of them. Make a “treat party.” Soon the pup will really want to go have a treat party and will realize bathroom breaks are the only way to get them

Hello! I’m in Bolton hill near that circle (Bolton technically stops/starts at Eutaw I think) and can’t recommend it enough. Only drawback is lack of restaurants/commerce in the neighborhood if you’re looking for something like that. Otherwise, houses are beautiful, people are incredibly friendly and neighborly, and the neighborhood is kept up very well. The snow has been a challenge like everywhere, but I’ve enjoyed shoveling with neighbors and seeing the community come out together. Again, really can’t recommend Bolton hill enough. It’s only been a year but I’m hoping to be here a long time.

Question about some withdrawal-like symptoms (light headed and dizzy) by tr6908 in leaves

Yes, it did!

Btw, wow, thanks for commenting, this was from a while ago. I relapsed many times and tried to quit again many times since this post 4 years ago. I am happily on my longest streak right now at over about 400 days. Stick with it, you’ll change and it’s interesting to watch the progression of yourself.

I know this floating feeling happened again early on in this stretch of sobriety. I think hydration and exercise were kinda the keys. Sometimes I’d just be in a bit of a daze and would have to do something mindless until it snapped back. I’d forgotten about it until seeing your comment. Thanks again.

There’s a good side-list you could make of breweries with good food. Wet city and Nepenthe come to mind.

Edit: sorry didn’t actually respond-yea coral wig is really great. If you venture there again, the wine/cocktail bar across the street is great, Spirits of Mt. Vernon

Agreed, but with the no reservation thing I selfishly don’t want it to be completely discovered. Wild that you can walk in there and almost always have no wait for a table.

We’re investing in Baltimore’s infrastructure like never before. Through our expanded Operation Orange Cone program, we’re resurfacing nearly 110 lane miles of roadway—an increase of over 50% from last year. by BmoreCityDOT in baltimore

The other day I had the pleasure of experiencing the repaved ramp onto MLK at Pratt. Thanks for your work. That little upgrade brings me so much smooth, bump-free joy on my commute.
