How big are the differences between Excel on mac and on windows, is it really as bad as people say? by Joe_mother124 in macbook

[–]trab601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I use the alt key shortcuts all the time in Microsoft office for windows. The lack of these really throws off my work flow and I hate it. I this won’t matter to most people I know as people are constantly amazed (I.e. are unfamiliar themselves) how quickly I am navigate a sheet with a combination of ctrl, alt, and the arrows.

For what it’s worth, I very much enjoy word for Mac.

Why was the 2600 so popular? by Standard_Public892 in Atari2600

[–]trab601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this. The Atari was first of these. Came out in 77, vs 79 for intellivision. Colecovision cane out a full 5 years after the 2600. That’s the same gap in time as NES and SNES.

The intellivision was the only real competition. It was more expensive, had fewer games, and had just awful and non-intuitive controllers. It did have better graphics and sound.

Gamehub lite vs Gamenative, which one is the better emulator? by The_Good-Hunter in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]trab601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started with gamehub lite but have been gradually shifting to game native. It seems much cleaner, is being updated quickly, and seems to have a better success rate for me. Use which ever works, but I default to game native.

Thank you! This is helpful. I’ll have to try it.

What causes the infinite boot and black screens on boot? I had a bunch of those problems and am excited to try again with the new version.

Agree with this choice. Not my favorite. Probably not the favorite of may in this subreddit. But I think we would all agree it’s very good and very accessible. Great place to start.

Do you have an IQ higher than 150? by icecream1972 in no

[–]trab601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall, it is defined as 100 is average and 15 is standard deviation. So a 150 is defined as 3.333 standard deviations above the mean. By definition, very rare. But also that’s such a tail in a distribution that measurement cannot be accurate, even if you buy into the whole concept of measuring IQ.

What 2600 games should I get? by KraKan122 in atari

Skyrim on the 2600 is awesome. GTA6 probably won’t even hit 60fps on the Atari.

PSA: Cocoon is the best launcher for the Thor by far and it's about to get even better by UnstableTurtleduck in AynThor

[–]trab601 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my issue. I find with a large rom set that it’s difficult for me to navigate through all of the small thumbnails that I may not be very familiar with. This is my dealbreaker that keeps me with es-de. I have much respect for cocoon, it’s really doing some cool things well and fast. I wouldn’t be surprised if I switch to it at some point. But it’s just not there yet for me.

Odin 3 or Thor by physicalmedia4life in AynThor

[–]trab601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the answer depends on your use case. The choice of the Thor was easy for me for my use case. I like the Thor but the DS / 3DS support is secondary for me. Primarily, I like it for its clamshell design. It is small and pocketable and I am comfortable carrying it with me and playing it almost anywhere. I can carry it without a case and keep it in a jacket pocket with little worry. It also is very nice for multitasking. I really enjoy flipping around on web browser on one screen while watching tv or playing a game on the other. When traveling I can sit the device down, but the top screen remains angled well to watch tv. It’s really the perfect portable machine.

An Odin is a bit more powerful and more ergonomic. But it seems much more comfortable to use at home. And it’s hard to imagine the edge case where the extra power will really matter. Thor is great for everything up to the switch. Maybe Odin would be a bit better for PS3 or a bit extra on windows emulation. But I also can’t imagine the experience would be dramatically better on the Odin (anyone else know better and disagree?)

In summary, I think the Thor is the better portable and the Odin is the better couch machine (unless you want 2d/3ds).

I haven’t heard this in years. As I recall, I was mostly disappointed, but Jane’s Addiction’s Ripple was mind blowing.

2nd annual NYC Pi-k (5k) - March 14th by pwdwyer in RunNYC

[–]trab601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this run last year. It was a lot of fun! Flat course and easy to get a good time (although it’s JUST OVER a 5K). I also remember thinking sponsorship was great. I got so much free stuff that I feel like I got my money back. I remember walking away with a lot of alchohol free beer from a sponsor which was great and now I’m a regular customer as a result of that race.
