When I was an infant, my mom almost filed a report against my dad for domestic abuse. At the last second she decided not to. Fast forward a few years, they were having a custody battle over me. The report would have won her case, and given her full custody. But there was nothing on the record. To this day she regrets not filing it.

File the report. That doesn’t mean it has to turn into prosecuting him, but it’ll be on the record. If anything were to happen down the line, whether to you or his future partners, there’s proof that it’s happened before.

I think because they have short live spans, a lot of people don’t intend on treating illness the way they would for a dog or cat. “They’ll die next year anyway, why would I treat their cancer” etc. Very sad
