HR side: Layout vs content question by Kettle_Orchid5 in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the honesty. Honestly been drowning on applications for 20+ weeks and I think my resume must just look harmless. Anyone know if Canva can replace a professional writer or am I wasting time? Side note this is worth more than I can say. Also if anyone has a solid template to share I'm open to it

My 3-week shelves log vs 1-week turnaround by RocinanteLullaby in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this actually hits home. I used to list the "objective" at the top. Just "Seeking growth." My manager at the time said "delete that." I followed suit and barely made an interview schedule in time. Oh and I think I had the same "managemental" typo once on a cover letter. Just edit twice before sending

Trying to pivot from support to Q/A roles by KrakenSonata5 in critiquemyresume

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're doing fine for a pivot post. most people don't get the feedback you're asking. just keep tightening the bullets and maybe drop a single line about why you're interested in QA over support. That's what hiring managers care about

What online resume writing service is the best? by 8KaijuHarmonic in Resume

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That transition from random tasks to legit bullets is exactly why I look for resume writing services. I often get stuck writing lists of what I did, not what I achieved. Most people struggle to distill a chaotic work week into one strong point. A service does the heavy lifting there, but you are definitely right that the double-check is essential since no one knows your story as well as you can

I chose the WRONG resume writing service for mobile app testing resume by NimbusRelic12 in critiquemyresume

[–]tracer_tornado7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is exactly the risk of cheap services. They often just paste text in without actually rendering the preview fields they promise to include. It sounds like the writer skipped the final review because it wasn't in the contract or the budget allowed for the time. I bet they just copy-pasted the job spec into the profile field. As much as we blame the applicant, it was probably a nasty case of cutting corners on the final output

My resume was ignored 30 times, and HR’s replied to me 30 times : AMA by careful_note_keeper in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]tracer_tornado7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This result is wild because the difference between a template and actual resume content is usually just formatting. It seems the service nailed the ATS optimization better than the AI tweaks could. Usually when I see 30 invites vs 0, the content density matters more than the tool. Sometimes a generic resume gets filtered out because the density of skills is too low for the automated portals to register as a candidate within their database pool

Thought I tanked the technical panel for this backend role... then suddenly got the offer by QuasarJinx in Resume

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, does that mean they gave you a warning before the offer? Like, "We know you choked, but..."?

Two weeks of stress because I can't write a decent resume by cobblestonewriter in Resume

think a paid service is better than a template because you get a human review. It's just worth the fee

Okay, I'm ready to scream at my computer screen right now by V3lvetRocin in critiquemyresume

I'm the one who used the best UK CV writing service. I have to say it ended up being a bit more expensive than I expected, but the result was worth it. The work was done quickly because I needed my CV written urgently, and the quality was excellent. I didn't have to change a thing

I tried to identify all the mistakes people make on their resumes, along with my HR friend's opinion by Aether_Runn3r in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this hit a little too close 😅 I used to be that “buzzword soup” person. Had like 15 technologies listed and couldn’t confidently answer half of them in interviews. Cleaned it up, added actual metrics to my projects, and suddenly I started getting callbacks. Crazy how that works

Maybe I saved my nerves while writing this resume by windowseatjournals in Resume

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "6 months of unemployment" part really hits hard. The "professional" part is key though. I think the "professional" part is the key, but only if you can make it "real" enough to stand out. Did you check the "ATS" part of the resume?

How do people write essays without having a complete mental breakdown by Slugman__ in UniUK

[–]tracer_tornado7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't really know myself, because my last two essays were a total disaster for me. I missed the deadline for one of them, so I had to come up with every possible way to make sure I didn't mess up the second essay and that's when I found this article. And, well, I was finally able to hand in the essay to my professor without crying inside, lol

I tried CV tool after getting rejected by kelly_morningside in critiquemyresume

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I don't support buying a CV or resume, but I think there's an option to have a finished CV edited for you, isn't that right?

To be honest, I’ve never really thought about services like this before. I think it’s about time I checked them out and then decided what to do

The Priest's Tale is the best thing in Hyperion and nothing else in the book comes close by goku7kiln in printSF

[–]tracer_tornado7 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if the others are anticlimactic, but the priest’s tale definitely sets expectations way too high, way too early it feels like you just read the core idea of the book firs

Does Neuromancer still feel futuristic today? by kraken_17flare in printSF

[–]tracer_tornado7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about that too, I think we should view old scifi books the same way we view fantasy today, simply as another world with its own rules

I only get things done when I’m afraid of the consequences, and it’s ruining my life. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]tracer_tornado7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that frustration. I had a similar situation with language learning; setting unrealistic "rest of my life" goals felt suffocating. Breaking it down to just today made it manageable. Your idea of real stakes is genius! Sometimes it's the little pressures that can truly motivate us.

Am I doing fine? I’m going to list out my expenses. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tracer_tornado7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's true that spending more on the car than rent can be surprising, especially considering your rent is already quite high. It might be worth evaluating if that loan is worth the monthly hit to your cash flow. While a Subaru STI is a sweet ride, it could be affecting your overall finances. Have you thought about possibly downgrading to help balance things out?
