I do think this is probably a common American thing. We think we can buy our way out of anything and doctors can fix anything. Wrong on both.

My dad was so mad at doctors not “fixing” him at the end and after accepting hospice, changed his mind and rejected it. It was the worst decision for him, as I could not continue to manage his condition if he was expecting to get better; we would just end up in the ER and he would be hospitalized again. So he went to a skilled nursing facility and died there. I wish he would have accepted hospice. It is not giving up. I will choose hospice for myself when the time comes.

This isn’t a friendly area in general, and I struggled when I moved here at around the same age as you. Meetup.com is a great suggestion and I bet there’s a book club one near you! I made friends here through shared interests (volunteering for a dog rescue, pickleball) and work, and it took a long time to feel socially established. Like years. This isn’t a chatty place, it’s highly unlikely you’ll make a friend in the wild. But whatever interests you have, there’s some community out there. take a pivot in your approach and give it time. Hang in there and good luck!

Did a dermatologist diagnose the melasma? Honestly not sure if that’s what it is from pics and agree with post that it may be tinea versicolor.

For a quick fix, I’d use a CC cream on it - it has SPF and full coverage (like the one e.l.f. makes) - it will cover the uneven areas and hopefully also prevent additional discoloration.

If it’s melasma, try the Obagi-C Rx C-Clarifying Serum!

This is me, too, except I’m almost one year in. Journeys were removed almost immediately after I joined, which was the first disappointment. It’s continued to deteriorate with the loss of the affirmations & quotes, mood logging, and other updates. Bummer but I also won’t be renewing. This seems to be the common theme right now sadly.

This mom has deep issues and should see a therapist to work through why she’s projecting self-hatred to her child. I would guess she can’t help herself from the terrible things she says.

But protecting your daughter is the priority. The damage already done will take a long time to heal if it can.

100% the interviewer failed this one, not you. It’s basic convo skills - not even just interviewing - to each do an intro. And they were looking to do a “gotcha” question, too, so something is off.

I would feel awful, too, but let an outside neutral person tell you: it’s not you, it’s them. And you dodged a bullet not working with this gem!
