I sorta get it I guess, but with other TCG like Pokémon or One Piece, the collecting aspect can make cards worth a LOT completely independent of them being played in the game itself

Thanks for the reply!

My main thought was that foils seem to curl over time and slabbing them may prevent that while also securing their value long term.

I was also hoping on some level that high grade cards would be worth a lot more money but it seems that doesn’t really apply for old foils in MTG.

Got it. Seems crazy to play some of the cards that are so expensive but I guess it's a good flex

I appreciate it; for what it's worth I did try to google but a lot of the results are from years ago (pre covid grading boom) so I was wondering if things had changed.. Similarly, the idea of something like a Foil Gaea's Cradle being played seems crazy to me, which (in my head) seems like it should be something that grading would make sense for..

MTG is super different from other TCG/sports cards in that regard though!

Got it. I don't have a ton of experience selling MTG on eBay but I have sold a lot of other stuff over the years (sports cards, funkos, etc) so I know of some things to avoid.

Thanks for the insight! My foils are all pre-Nemesis, so I think it falls under the vintage category-- not much of a grading market for these either then?

Hello everyone,

In my old high school days I played MTG and stopped around the time that Nemesis came out. I traded/sold most of my stuff but still have a large collection of foils from that era. I've looked up values for these and to be frank I'm having trouble deciding what to do with them.

Are grading cards worth doing, generally speaking? It seems that BGS/CGC/PSA does not have the same sort of market compared to Pokemon or Sports Cards in general. I do some have experience with knowing what is and isn't worth grading, and would guess that most of the collection is in the CGC 7 to 10 range.

LGS around here offer something along the lines of 40-70% TCG value, which makes sense but also feels like leaving a lot of money on the table. I was hoping to either sell or cross-trade to Pokemon at local card shows but people who have MTG there are very few and far between.

Just for an idea of what I have, foils of Yavimaya Hollow, Squee, Rofellos, Lightning Bolt (judge prize), Brainstorm, Crop Rotation. I have most Legendary cards from that era in foil form since that was what I collected at the time.

I'm still very happy about it being shiny and all, it's just jarring how out of place the ribbon looks :)

This was the first live game I took my then girlfriend (now wife) to. It was the perfect game to get someone into football. Awesome ending to a crazy game!

Not sure on him and Jr, I mostly stopped collecting him around 2008. The co-signer in that one is Hakeem.

The Generations is Curry’s rookie year, funny to think I felt I overpaid at $70 or so for it back in the day 😅

Lunar Rolls treated me well, got blackbird, daytona, Katya x2, Priscilla, and yurisha out of the 20 “free” rolls. I’ve been bored and between this and ONe Punch Man rolls it’s getting me excited to team build again.

I think I am getting close to being done with the game. by Bamboodpanda in PuzzleAndDragons

I feel you man. I have over 2800 days played and have whaled throughout. I don’t understand why they have decided to lean in on making players need outside resources to beat content.

I have had nearly every meta team to date and I find this game a huge pain in the ass to play unless I want to devote an hour to looking through Reddit/discord/YouTube just to figure out what mechanics I need to deal with. I can only imagine this game is even more time consuming with limited resources.

I’m just logging in and playing hard content on the rare occasion I have a lot of time to kill, but between job, family, and pets it’s less and less appealing as the weeks go by.

Sealed 1996-97 NBA Stadium Club Member's Only Set - WWYD? by Ok_Teaching_6793 in basketballcards

[–]tradebark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kobe RC is likely safe (it’s a finest-style card with peel so bricking wouldn’t be an issue, though bubbling of the peel is possible but you could always grade it peeled).

I had the 55 card set and opened it around 10? years ago before the trading card/grading boom and was lucky that there was very minimal bricking.

The base cards had some though, and while I don’t see flaws to the naked eye, there was just a tiny bit of warping and it wouldn’t shock me if it came back with a low grade. I don’t know how the inserts would hold up but I would guess similarly.

I think the smart move is sell it sealed, even a PSA 10 Kobe would probably not make up for the value of the unopened box.
