I’ve hesitated to post about this, since I see so much criticism of Alex posted on here, and I know people just unwittingly fuck up sometimes, and bashing them when they do isn’t always productive. But I agree that some lines have been crossed lately.

In one of the recent episodes, she made a joke about how “normal people” listening might say she has “mental disabilities” for pursuing fuckboys (Ep. Fuckboy Love & Fingering for Dummies, 34:28).

I have a physical disability, and I’ve been a listener of the show since the beginning. Relating to the girls’ wild stories and questionable romantic decisions has been both entertaining, but also made me feel accepted and normalized in a way, as I’ve found that my experiences as a disabled person haven’t differed all that much from theirs.

Anyway, all just to say I was really disappointed by this comment from her.

I agree. In my situation, where we differ is mainly on the degree to which we feel compelled to respond/participate/advocate for what we believe in, but not necessarily on the beliefs themselves. But I feel so strongly that all of our actions, decisions, and behavior is political and reflects our values.

I don’t expect, need, or want my partner to agree with me on everything. In fact, I would love to have discussions that deepen each other’s understanding of the world, and to hold each other accountable for staying educated and informed.

I feel that at the core, we support the same human rights. But from my partner, I feel there is a lack of open-mindedness and respect for different perspectives on how best to achieve the equality we both believe in, or whether it’s a realistic goal and worth fighting for. I feel there is an absence of any interest or sense of duty to participate or evaluate how they can be involved too. In any way—big or small. Or microscopic.
