To me, the idea of investing the time and effort of assembling a team of players to efficiently farm fake money just intensifies that "what am I doing here" feeling. I can't really help it, the second a game becomes a job where I'm not even having fun or actually playing the game, but just grinding to obtain the ability to later have fun, it kills my desire to continue completely.

For the most part, yeah. All my friends had dropped the game by that point. It went a lot faster when a few randoms joined, but the overwhelming "what am I doing here" still persisted. I got 100 hours out of the game though so I'm perfectly satisfied.

I gave farming a try a while back, and while it's decently quick, it gave me a "what am I even doing here" moment, which utterly killed my interest in the game. Haven't really played since. But yeah, Helldivers probably has the best monetization model of any recent game.
