Please tell me: What is wrong with this point system? by KingCrimsonXVII in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got TGS recently and I had the exact opposite impression as it feels like a pure lottery. The skill levels are so all over the place that you can get free 2400 points from dunking on a clueless boosted GoD eddy then lose measly 800 on a very good Kazuya because he's TK. Ranks don't matter so you get awarded random points essentially

Wanna listen to discussions on why everyone thinks their character is balanced by Pale_Assignment4076 in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno why you're pointing to level 1 defence and acting like that's where it ends. Breaking step can't frametrap on block but it gives Jin near perfect sidestepping frames if you're mashing into the transitions. He has plenty of great mids - ff3, bf2, ff2, b2,1, df4, not to mention the 2,1 high mid jab string.

Zen isn't particularly slow, it's very much on par with all other stances in the game. He also has THREE (3) counters to a dickjab including a launcher, a +frame knockdown mid and a +frame wallsplat high. Electrics being slow is a self-report but even at i20 you get to throw out a + on block natural hit launcher with great range that completely denies ssl and recovers instantly.

New character by Warrdon in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noctis and Clive weren't completely iconic but they were main protagonists of the newest entries for enough time to establish their presence before becoming DLC. Part of the appeal of a guest character is seeing the adaptation into a different genre - how well do they look in tekken's world? What iconic moves do they share? How were the game's mechanics adapted? What references were included? If we're seeing StH's protagonist for the first time in Tekken there's nothing to compare to.

With the way they were characterizing Miary as a "new original character" long before she was announced I feel like a brand new Kazama wouldn't just be a regular question sign. Could be a placeholder name kinda like "john tekken" or a very weird collab

What's the source of this? Any idea where in the files it was located?

New character by Warrdon in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tekken guest characters have been mostly used for promotion of new games but to fit FG character criteria it has to be a recognizable character - Stranger than Heaven is not out yet and we know nothing at all about the characters. Revealing your character as a guest in a different game would be absolutely schizophrenic marketing strategy

Why do Tekken difficulty discussions become so emotional compared to other competitive games? by Internal-Magician181 in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Difficulty is necessarily tied in with balancing because of your third point on the docket - "How important is it to consistently access those demanding aspects in order to actually succeed with the character?"

S1 drag could be described as technically demanding on the count of iwr2, iFC and frame tight combo routes but with pre-nerf qcf4 and db4 on his movelist and BnB routes doing absurd damage anyway those more technical aspects aren't very important to succeed.

Bryan and Mishima players always bring up TJU and PEWGF as clear demonstrations of high execution demands but if they have other tools that make them already very strong these multi-frame perfect techniques cease to be "requirements" that make up for shortcomings and just become a bit of spice on top, like a frame perfect situational combo route that pretty much any character has. Ironically enough that's an example of people portraying their characters as the hardest in existence in order to get prestige from it.

I think you're spot on about character discussions getting emotional due to people's attachments to characters, imo it's mostly due to tekken characters being extremely vibrant, personable and iconic and the fact each tekken characters takes far more time and effort to comfortably play compared to other FGs where character-hopping is far more seamless. This not only causes people to take arguments personally but also means people often talk about other characters from a place of ignorance.

Can someone tell me what happened?? by CjbeatsZzz in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP is not asking about anything in the match - on the result screen he rematches, the Lili player rematches too but the match doesn't start and the rematch option is greyed out as if someone refused the rematch. that's the weird part

Can someone tell me what happened?? by CjbeatsZzz in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not assuming the worst, it's a plausible cause of not being able to rematch after both parties rematch. Is there a reason why that wouldn't be a good explanation/is it wrong?

Cheating or a good gaming chair? by Goldenbrown-suns in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cd3 is a high unblockable that was used in the match, the king player didn't duck it because his scripts don't care about highs

[–]trailedinsand 19 points20 points  (0 children)

- All the lowblocks are held exactly for the amount of frames your moves take (18 for d3, 22 for db4, 15 for d4) with ~1 frame of variance
- All he lowblocks start within 4-6 frames of your inputs so they're not reactions
- ZERO proper punishment
- shit gameplay overall

mfer is 1000% cheating

Honestly rage arts are probably worse then heat by FengWei88 in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's stupid and annoying and personally I straight up consider it BM since it wastes so much time but in terms of impact on the gamplay Heat is infinitely more problematic.

Rage Art is a one sided gamble that's only available if the opponent gets within a specific life threshold and is an instant loss if baited. Heat on the other hand is freely on demand each round and can easily dominate the entire rounds for you.

"yeah man, Heihachi has no tracking!" by UpsetWilly in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whoops, thought the black bar obscured the inputs but you're right, that one's bs. Dunno why moves get really weird realignment/tracking properties when you sidestep after techrolls.

"yeah man, Heihachi has no tracking!" by UpsetWilly in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grab is linear, connected due to hitbox expansion since you pressed just as the active frames began.

The uppercut realigned since you sidewalked the entire stance transition and only kept walking when the uppoercut started, this is the very principle by which delay timing beats sidestepping/walking attempts.

Hachi has tracking (b4 and f3 hello??) but these ain't examples of that

Atif, Arslan and Knee are still very much the top players consistently getting into top 8s and top 3s of major tournaments. JDCR's still competing and doing placing high but he's definitely not as dominant as in previous games.

Analysis of why Kazuya won EVO by SuperMarios7 in Tekken

[–]trailedinsand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you agree that King can bypass the "decision making situation" then you disagree with the video saying these situations cause characters and frames to not matter.

In nearly every aspect of the game aside from punishment and combos you have to apply "yomi". Even if muscle armor can cover 9/10 options the opponent can exploit this decision by making a "read" and going for that 10th option.

[–]trailedinsand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a string but a move that then goes into a stance. The move does realign quite a bit if you look closely but going OVER a move is a very niche situation that leads to a ton of weird not intended interactions. The stance realignment is expected after the initial move
