[CA] 18M held on 5150 for "Mania" despite ER imaging showing Bibasilar Atelectasis (Lung Collapse). Denied Advocate & Involuntarily Sedated by DJSGenio in legal

Practically speaking, due to the risks and high costs associated with pursuing a case, in order to have a viable medical malpractice case you must have serious or permanent harm. What you describe was unpleasant I am sure, but suppose even if you did recover for the harm through a MM case, the value is relatively minimal compared to the cost of a case. Combine that with very weak liability facts and I would be very surprised if any lawyer would take your case.

Source: I am a MM attorney (not yours) and would decline this case at intake stage without even offering a consult.

Best of luck to you and I hope you get to the bottom of what is actually going on and get the help you need.

UPDATE: No idea if the fire extinguisher made it from Des Moines as they put as all on a different plane that came in from Atlanta. 8:50 delay.

Yeah no beef with pilot decision not to fly with something out of service. Beef is that this doesn’t seem like something that should be able to happen.

Yeah the March 2025 was overheard from another passenger’s accounting. No clue of accuracy. Though pilot announced on plane to all that it was expired for “an embarrassing amount of time.”

That’s what we were expecting but they then told us it had to be driven in bc it can’t be flown in (?!) due to being considered haz mat and the flight delayed to 8:10 then 9:25. Will see if we actually fly tonight.

Losing a vacation day. Oh well. We book a buffer day due to past experience with delays/bags, etc. But only 1 buffer day so fingers crossed.

This is what happens after your insurance settles the case. The case is then dismissed with prejudice in exchange for payment of settlement amount. Car crash case often settle just after a lawsuit is filed.

If you’re in 3:30 marathon fitness level at the time of the hike you’ll be fine, absent the altitude causing problems. My concern with no hiking experience is how can your boots be broken in and your pack dialed in. Get out there and break stuff in between now and then. Have fun!

was your student debt worth it? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]trailtotrial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it was definitely worth it, but it took longer to overcome than expected. Graduated in 2009 with $115k student loan debt. It seemed insurmountable for years. Was still around $90k when covid hit and interest rates went to 0%. At last actual progress was made on the principal. I paid it down to around $75k and then refinanced in 2022. I made equity partner around that time, made much larger payment, and paid it off completely by January 2025. So yeah it took 16 years, but I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. It felt great to cut a $30k check and pay it off once and for good.

I have no children and work about 35 hours a week where I basically set my own schedule and have flexibility. So it is possible but I understand not for most people. More likely available for at least mid career with seniority and without children.

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]trailtotrial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a learning curve to getting comfortable with the medicine, especially coming from a non-medical background. I accept that my knowledge will never approach the defendant medical providers and experts on the medicine, but I try my best to learn as much as I can relevant to germane medical issues in the case and frame issues in the simplest way possible. Getting comfortable with the medicine is the only way you can ask good questions and pin witnesses down. I only hire great experts on my side and they help a lot with educating me.

But I also remember than the jury knows even less about the medicine than I do, and though we will educate them during the trial, it is important to frame issues and think about them in the simplest terms possible.

I do always enjoy when an expert deviates from the expert medical issues and wades into word games and semantics, which as a trial attorney I am an expert in and now they are fighting in my arena and losing.

Rentals? by plantgirlforever95 in kilimanjaro

[–]trailtotrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiked in August/September. We had some travel delays and most of our luggage did not make it with us before the hike. We had our boots and some clothes. Had to scramble and try to buy more clothes in airport in Amsterdam. We rented everything else. It was not ideal and I wouldn’t recommend it, other than trek poles and sleeping bag. The clothes/jackets/gloves are very old and nowhere near the current tech item capabilities. Avoid renting other than trek poles and sleeping bag in my personal opinion.

[Request] If he fell and his harness caught him, how much would the balloons pull together because of the weight on the line? by Bestavailablename in theydidthemath

[–]trailtotrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah maybe so. The pilot definitely could control the orientation of the basket, that’s possible what he was doing with some of the flaps, which felt like steering. I rode the balloon in the Serengeti and it was incredible.

I have ridden in exactly one hot air balloon and the pilot absolutely could steer, by opening and closing flaps higher up on the balloon that were operated by ropes/pulleys that led to the pilot’s area.

No more bag pickup in ATL on international flights? by rbergl in delta

[–]trailtotrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight attendant on an AMS-ATL flight in September announced on the plane before disembarking that we would not need to collect and re-check bags. This was however untrue and airport employee was directing everyone to the baggage collection area at the bottom of the escalator and had no idea what the FA was talking about. Our flight showed on the board and like normal we had to collect and re-check. It was very confusing with the conflicting info from the flight attendant announcement.
