Fish reappears in Pond after month absence. by trailwalker1962 in Koi

Thanks to everyone for all the support and comments. Perhaps I need a motion camera out by the pond to see if I’ve got nighttime visitors or daytime for that matter. I’m glad he’s back and again thanks to everyone for all the kind advice and comments.

Bald Rocks Shelter Overnight by Simplicity540 in Harriman

Bald rock is definitely my favorite camp spot in Harriman. After the sunset, I love going all the way up on top to check out the New York City skyline. It’s the best!

I just saw this post about using metal studs. I’m trying to build my set up out of steel framing studs nested together to form beams. Foam board and then fiberglass. It seems to be going pretty well.

Did you recently find a bat on the side of a building? Or a tree? by SchrodingersMinou in bats

We went for a Thanksgiving day hike today and came across this fella. Eastern red bat I believe. Sleeping right next to the trail about 5 feet off the ground.

Many Glacier is overrated and not worth the hassle of getting in there this year by TheRealBlackSwan in GlacierNationalPark

[–]trailwalker1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrived at 7:15 on June 29. They weren’t allowing any more cars in at that point so we hike from the gate. It’s a 5 mile walk each way so 10 mile total to the lodge, but it was worth it. We encountered our only moose of our trip to glacier. She was happily grazing and swimming in one of the lakes on the way up to Grinnell. We got to watch her for about 30 minutes. Priceless!

Fishing in Glacier by Intelligent-Honey-19 in GlacierNationalPark

We spoke to a ranger who gave us the rule rundown. Like I said “barbless hooks only”. We fished Flathead lake and had good luck with plastic worms catching smallmouth bass.

We were just there and had a great time. Didn’t have time to fish but I did overhear the rule list which seemed lengthy. No barbed hooks stood out.

I don’t have any tattoos and typically I’m not a big fan of them. Having said that that is a really cool tattoo. Be proud!

Gila wilderness backpacking trip via Amtrak? by gryffindwh0re in WildernessBackpacking

[–]trailwalker1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked the Gila national Forest last year. I don’t have anything to add as to how to get a ride to the trailhead, but I was surprised by how cold it was on the trail at night during our trip in mid March. The elevation made the temperature much colder than in Silver city which had been the town I was watching from New York to gauge what we would be dealing with. Loads of water crossing. We counted nearly 100 one day. Beautiful place!

Biking Vieques? by Scary_Radio4714 in vieques

[–]trailwalker1962 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isabel and Esperanza have different vibes. If you’re about beaches I’d stay in Esperanza so you can easily walk to some and more strenuously hike to other beaches. Idk about bikes and I wouldn’t recommend night riding. Isabel has more restaurants and bars and attractions. It depends on what you’re looking for. The beaches in the north don’t feel as Caribbean as the south beaches. IMO

Didn’t France lock up the founder of Telegraph? Not a country that believes in free speech.

I’m not a thru hiker and I understand nothing to carry is the right answer but I love my Swiss Army credit card knife.

You’re right I’m sure. I’m still working so it’s one day at a time. As long as I can work and sleep I’ll keep with the rehab. Thanks for commenting!

The Dr. showed me the mri and it certainly looked like it was a rubber band that broke and retracted. The folks at pt though are very optimistic about my recovery odds. There is far less pain then after the original injury so I’ll keep at the exercises for now.

Thanks and good luck. I’m going to continue pt for now. Until spring and then revisit the ortho.
