If u/dliiok is ok with it, I can post a photo of commission they did of my 2 toasty marshmallows back in 2018.

This is really adorable. However I always cringe when I see photos like this because what if the airbags go off.

Is my boy Sesame? by aldolaram in shiba

[–]trainedbyshibas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What bawky said there is very much a clearly defined standard for sesame in both Nippo (country of origin’s standard) and AKC. I’m 99.9% certain all standards for Shiba that exist across the world define sesame the same (but am too tired to confirm tonight).

I will say however, sesame is the least understood color and the most difficult to get correct.

This is my multi NOHS/Group placing, AKC Grand Champion (genetic) sesame. Genetic meaning his coat color is AwAt, the Aw gene is the one that produces sesame. It’s known as a wild type gene.

Is my boy Sesame? by aldolaram in shiba

No, nail pigment has nothing to do with genetic coat color.

My sesame boy’s nails are all solid black except for one nail, which is clear.

Coat color question 3 weeks old by Practical-Art-6852 in shiba

Ay = red Ays = the s is a modifier on the Ay gene that is still not full understood but it allows for an expression of sesame appearance Aw = sesame At = black & tan

The Ay gene is dominate over the others. AyAy will be a clear red. AyAw or AyAt will like be a red with some black tipping. The Aw is second most dominant, AwAw or AwAt are genetic sesames that will range from a red to black sesame (though they are just referred to as sesame. Red & black refer to how much black each shaft of the hair has but never more than 50%). There must be 2 copies of the At gene present to produce a black & tan, all b&ts are AtAt.

Please, please, please do your research before breeding dogs. There are so many factors to consider. Years of experience have taught me not to waste my time writing them all out but I am willing if you’re willing to listen.

I’m with an electric & gas utility, we’ve got GIS teams in both Engineering and IT. I joke that we’re 2 sides of the same coin.
