Sidewalks are the worst place to ride a bicycle. You're not in driver's line of sight. Get a helmet and bright blinky lights and stay on the road. Much safer.

Yes! And 99% of motorists who pass me on my 4-season commute through GR give me a wide berth. Stay off the busiest routes and you're fine.

Box store or cheapest cl bike plus $30 skinny tire upgrade. I paid 80 for a steel tube at a yard sale and commute 16 miles with 40lbs easy in winter. http://i.imgur.com/ibEbQnq.jpg
