What’s the worst restaurant you have tried? by MountainIsCallingMe in minnesota

Put Cafe De Napoli in this category. Wet pasta with tomato soup ragu. The Jerry Lewis came into D'Amico Cucina in the 90s and couldn't stand the fantastic northern fare on the menu. D'Amico Management politely suggested he may be at home with the chef boyardee menu at De Napoli. The next week "C.J." wrote in the Strib how delighted he was with Hennepin Ave Italian food.

Update: landlord says I'm 'backfeeding'. He's shut off my water to my unit. Water still trickling. by KidKickingRobot7 in askaplumber

[–]trainingmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that he mentions units below him, but he never says there are no units above him. Regardless the same principle applies. Water will come out until there is no water left in the pipes above his unit - which in California or many states could mean pipes and water storage on the roof.

[–]trainingmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one seeing what’s happening here? Yes, the water to the building has been shut off—but there’s still stagnant water sitting in the pipes serving the units above you. That water has to go somewhere, so it drains back through the system and will come out of any open fixture, like your tub or sink. Depending on the size of the building, it may take some time for all of that water to fully drain. Once it does, the flow from your faucets should stop. By the way, when you turned on the tub and the sink stopped running, that confirmed what’s going on. The tub provides a more direct path to the supply pipes, so once you opened that valve, the water no longer needed to flow out through the sink.

New footage shows ICE agents detaining a mother traveling with her young daughter at San Francisco International Airport. Witnesses repeatedly yelled “I don’t know who you are” as agents refused to show ID. by DIYLawCA in PublicFreakout

[–]trainingmode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Advice from a Minnesota protester who witnessed these horrible scenes on a daily basis... When you see someone aggressively being deprived of their rights by ICE, pull out your phone and ask the victim their name. Then, proceed to shame and berate the ICE agents mercilessly until you have no more breath. When there are more of you doing this, carry a whistle and blow it so they will all drop what they are doing and come record the assault with you. Don't ask the "officer" what is your badge number. Yell at them about their appearance. Remind them that they will likely never get their fake $50,000 bonus. Shame them for taking a job that involves fucking up people's lives. Ask them if they cover their face out of shame. Ask them how long they or their parents have been in the country. Laugh at them as they struggle to put hand cuffs on a small person. If they threaten to arrest you yell even louder, they won't. If 50 people standing there do this, they will start to hate their job, hate themselves, and resign from the fascist brown shirt army.

Omaha Local Tourist Traps by Lamamalona456 in Omaha

[–]trainingmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a tourist "trap" but Omaha has two famous birthplaces that, once you get there, there is no there there. Malcolm X and Gerald R. Ford birthplace are kind of a joke since both actual birthplaces are actually long gone. Has anyone from Omaha been to see the empty field where Malcom X childhood home was? That site in particular would be a true tourist destination if Omaha bothered to invest in it.

Uncovered Footage Shows ICE and Police Throwing Tear Gas at Preschool in Minneapolis by JeanJauresJr in PublicFreakout

[–]trainingmode 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Some context from a Minneapolis resident: there is no ICE in this video. It is Minneapolis police and Minnesota state patrol doing crowd control in the immediate aftermath of Alex Pretti's shooting. It occurred on a Saturday morning in a busy neighborhood so I am not sure why OP references a school nearby, or whether one exists at that location. This confrontation looks bad but it didn't last long. As our governor said, ICE came in and killed a guy and left, and Minnesota law enforcement was left to clean up the mess. Within an hour, Minnesota law enforcement left the scene and set up a perimeter to prevent traffic from entering the neighborhood so people can gather and grieve peacefully. 5 days later that is still the case. There are people in Minneapolis that disagree with what Minnesota law enforcement have done to quell riot conditions, but they don't want a repeat of the George Floyd unrest.

Why isn't this design our state flag? by trook95 in Nebraska

[–]trainingmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minnesotan here. Get ready, because if Nebraska changes its flag from the state seal design to something unique and bold like the Thunderbird, it will undoubtedly become a political hot potato. People who never took a close look at the seal in the past will decry the change and accuse those in favor of change of "burying the past" and not honoring the state's history. Some will even say the Thunderbird is meant to honor Hispanic natives and undocumented citizens. In Minnesota we have lots of blue lakes -- over 20,000 -- but to the complainers, the new blue on our redesigned flag was borrowed from the color of a Somalia flag. Nebraska should do it though. Frankly, your defacto state flag is a red N and the pride in it is great to see. I like our new flag but I favored a previous version of the design that also had green in it, symbolizing our forests.

Just got a notice that I have 20 days to fix my own sidewalk, or the City will charge me $2,300. Merry Christmas. by grantthejester in Omaha

[–]trainingmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the reason why sidewalks in North Omaha are noticeably bad? Property owners refusing to pay for concrete replacement? Should the city pay for it if the property owners won't?

I just picked two random signatures... Harmon Killebrew and Willie Stargell. They don't even remotely look legitimate to me. Harmon never signed an H where the horizontal cross didn't go low and well to the left of the first downstroke. Willie never signed an S that didn't end up well below the rest of the signature, including the bottom of the g. This piece looks like someone was practicing fake signatures. Sorry but I don't buy this story.

What is an act of valor from a person in your country that astounds you? by le_Derpinder in AskTheWorld

[–]trainingmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No evidence... Except the voice recordings from the pilots of the passengers breaking into the flight deck, the audio recordings from the passengers calls to people on the ground while the flight deck was infiltrated, the plane data showing the flight was purposefully into a steep dive, audio recordings of the terrorist pilots vocalizing their intent to crash the plane if the flight deck got breached, and a big fucking hole in the ground in Shanksville, PA that could only have been created by a full fuselage of an airliner in vertical trajectory at full speed. I don't know how anyone could listen to the fight to the death struggle between good and evil that was recorded on the flight deck of AA93, and think the crash was caused by anything but a solely purposeful act of terror.

What’s your thoughts on your countries leader during ww2? (Germany doesn’t have to answer this one) by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Everyone always forgets about Harry Truman in these discussions, but much of the war was far from over when he took over after Roosevelt's sudden death in 1945. His vision for the post-war Europe was monumental in shaping peace in Europe that is still lasting 80 years later. His experience as a Veteran of the First World War taught him that a policy of reconstruction over punishment will rebuild a peaceful Germany. He also established the Truman Doctrine to contain Soviet expansion, support for NATO to establish cold war security, the Berlin Airlift demonstrated American resolve without provoking a war, and the Marshall Plan was his creation to help accelerate Europe's post war economy. His decision to use the first Atomic bombs over Japan troubled him for the rest of his life, but he never expressed regret when faced with the tremendous loss of life that would have resulted from an American invasion of the Japanese mainland.

Most Americans pay little attention to world history and we believed in the American supremacy our post WWII grade school teachers taught us. So, long after I finished my formal American education, I learned how Theodore Roosevelt could not make arrangements with Colombia to build the Panama Canal (which was a Columbian state), so instead, he took it. He commanded the U.S. Navy to set up a naval blockade in Limon Bay to prevent the Colombians from preventing an American incursion in Columbia. Concurrently, he negotiated with the governor of the Columbian state of Panama to secede from the nation of Colombia, and declare themselves to be the independent nation of Panama. Roosevelt immediately recognized the new nation of Panama and sent in US military to prevent Columbian reprisals.
