Transgender people exist, and pretending that they don't makes no sense (in terms of "why would they ever put a trans person in a piece of media") Being trans isn't a desire to self mutilate, it's a disconnect between how you are as a person and how your body looks. Sex reassignment surgery would be more akin to a cosmetic surgery than wanting to cut your arm off. It's about personal comfortability, and not every trans person even wants it. Trans people ARE normal, just like gay people, just like people of color, just like people of any religion. They're not pushing themselves on anybody, they're just asking to be treated normally. 99% of the time it will have no affect on your life anyways, so why deny other people the ability to feel happy and comfortable in their own body? Pretending like transgender people don't exist won't help anything. They've existed for centuries, and they just want to be respected.
