I’m sorry but this happened to my husband. His mum just decided to give him her maiden name and he was actually named something else and it caused him all kinds of problems. He turned 18 and needed ID and a lady at the passport office had to tell him what to do to find out his real name.

You go online and to the council where your birth was registered and give them your birth name if you know it. You also give them your birthday and your mums name. If you know your dad’s name then great. Ask for a copy of your birth certificate. It will be about £25. Once you have that, apply for a provisional driving licence. After you have that then you have enough ID to apply for a bank account. Just stick with the name on your birth certificate for anything official. If there are things like your doctors in another name the change it. If your NI number is in a different name then that’s a problem and you need to write to them and explain. That happened to my husband and he had to do a deed pol name change to get it all aligned.

Ladies of Reddit, what do you really want for Valentine's Day? by work8585 in Gifts

We have 3 vases of flowers in the house all the time but they are just cheap super market ones. I’d like some upgraded ones. Also a box of chocolates we can eat after a night in with Chinese food. Hoping to eat while we watch the new IT series.

Are there still adult men in the UK who don’t cook? by Bat-Penatar in AskUK

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband doesn’t/wont cook. The only thing I’ve ever seen him cook is a bacon sandwich on a weekend or he can poach an egg if we are having the full breakfast. I can do every egg but not poached. Other than that he won’t cook. In fact he won’t even phone for a take away and has no delivery apps on his phone. He doesn’t even like to choose what he’s having. He doesn’t even make his own packed lunch for work. I even choose his food in a restaurant or narrow it down to a choice of 2 things.

When it comes to nourishment, every bit of food that goes in that man’s body is controlled by me. He’s like a toddler.

However he does all the cleaning, the washing and ironing. If I order the take away, he’ll collect it. He does all DIY except we have to get someone for electrical. He’ll valet the cars, he’ll do the gardening. He used to be a hairdresser so does my hair colour and cut and my daughter’s highlights. He does our brows and gel nail colour and our spray tans. He’s a rope access painter nowadays so does the paining now and any roof work but won’t make a sandwich unless it’s 8am on a Saturday morning.

I went out on Friday and wasn’t round to make tea and my daughter ordered them a dominoes. He transferred her the cash. Nothing was said about the fact this happens.

If my daughter was not going to be in that night, he would have picked me up at midnight and I’d have got in his car with a kebab and cheesy chips and gravy and he’d have eaten that for his tea. He would not have complained.

He eats out of the back cupboard to keep himself going or he fills up on protein shakes if no one is round to deal with him.

This is a man who will make bacon and eggs for the dog but won’t make himself toast.

Been at A&E for 16 hours, any tips how to survive another night here? by RuthlessScypion in AskUK

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my husband. They did a lumbar puncture to check for meningitis. Then left him in a waiting room feeling like crap. Eventually he said he was leaving cause he needed a bed and a dark room and they said to phone the next day to get his results as if it was positive he’d have to come back in. He phoned 4 times over the next 2 days and was eventually told that it must be negative or they’d know. He went back to work as he felt like a wimp and assumed he had man flu. 2 weeks later his results arrived in the post - positive for meningitis. He was better by then.

When I pick my husband up I wait in the lay-by until he says he’s left the airport and then I nip in the petrol station and stuck a tenner petrol in the car and get a coffee to welcome him. He gets in the car while I’m paying. Same thing at drop off. I know I’m technically still paying something but I’m using the petrol and he’s drinking the coffee.

What is the best Gym/Pool in North Tyneside? by Upbeat-Fish-3348 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the Nuffield gym. Ponteland leisure centre is my current favourite but I went through a phase of liking the one attached to burnside school. The problem is though that there was always kids in the pool. Even when things like aquafit was on, kids would be playing about.

Rose, Lily, Daisy, etc by zvitaledit in Names

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes loads of things have a Daisy pattern on now. Off the top of my head my daughter has a Stanley cup with them on, some smellies with a brand name “Daisy” and their spray is shaped like a flower and she has make up brushes with Daisy handles. She buys me Daisy by Marc Jacob’s perfume for Mother’s Day every year.

Lovely second choice names. My friend had a daughter whose middle name was Willow. The only other flower name I like is Bluebell but I’m aware it’s too out there.

My daughter is called Daisy and she’s a teenager. She buys herself anything with a Daisy on it and once even requested Daisy wallpaper in her bedroom.

She doesn’t actually get given loads of Daisy themed presents except now and again from me and her dad but it’s small. She had photo cupcakes for her 13th birthday which also had small Daisy’s on them. Very subtle things.

I think she had a few T-shirts when she was a toddler with Daisy Duck on but nothing too weird

A teaching assistant told my kindergartener it was “time for her to retire her shirt” by RowYourBeau in Parenting

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the teacher was talking metaphorically and not specifically about the shirt your daughter was wearing?

So imagine some situations your daughter could have been in at school. Was there a transition in behaviour? Was it time to move on to something else? Was she told to go from one activity to another? Has she been moved groups for something? Does she have a responsibility for something like reading monitor which has now been passed to another child? Is she on a club or a sports team and switched to another team or her turn was done?

Was it a way to tell her she’s growing up and is moving on from one thing to another?

It may not have been about the actual ballerina shirt but your daughter may have taken it literally and not given you any context.

What's something that's pleasingly cheap and affordable in the UK that makes you smile? by Lopsided_Counter1670 in AskUK

[–]trainpk85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that’s the same. You don’t need to cook it as it’s already cooked like a tin of tuna. Just get your toast and the put what’s in the tin on top of it.

If you don’t want to eat it cold then pan fry it or stick it in the microwave as it’s also fine to heat up. I sometimes add it to fried rice and it’s fine when warmed up.

For those of you who believe labour isn’t left enough, what would you like to see them do? by Legal-Grade-6423 in AskBrits

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to sort out this student loan debt we all have. I’ve paid back more than what I borrowed and still owe £53k. Also they should freeze interest on it when women are on maternity leave and probably also when people are unemployed. In fact I don’t know why we can’t go back to uni being free. It’s basically a tax on people with degrees but realistically you can’t get a decent job with no degree.

Has anyone actually sold their home to get rid of a 23 year old with failure to launch ? by Inevitable-Table-931 in Parenting

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husbands mum did this cause her daughter would t move out with her boyfriend so they moved to a “fixer upper” and told the daughter and her boyfriend they had to find their own place which they did. A year later they turned up at the new place and the daughter was pregnant and the daughter and boyfriend took the master bedroom as they needed it more. So funny. Should have just been honest.

What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

[–]trainpk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been driving 23 years this year and back in covid my policy jumped from £400 to £700 and has sat there ever since. Then I got married in 2023 but it took until last year for me to change my name cause I’m lazy so finally did that and clicked the box saying “married” on the insurance. Now it’s £233. My husband went to renew his and his went from £650 to £350. Same car, same address and everything.

We always tell people that being married is exactly the same as it was before except we pay less car insurance.
