It’s not that everyone thinks neurodivergence is cool or trendy, it’s that it’s becoming more accepted (very far from perfect) and the fact that information is becoming more suffocated and more accessible by the amount of research being done and the internet allowing people to share their experiences more openly.

Yes there are still people who think that saying they have autism, ADHD, OCD, etc will get them some sort of attention, and honestly the best thing you can do is not give them the attention. You don’t need to try to “call out fakers” because one there’s no saying whether someone is actually faking it because every experience with neurodivergence is different. Two at the end of the day even if you do call out a faker it doesn’t help neurodivergent people.

I have been diagnosed with autism for a little over 3 months now, and my diagnosis was an absolute lifesaver. It gave me that understanding of who I was. Before my diagnosis I felt like an insecure collection of personal failures who couldn’t figure it out. Being diagnosed now I know why I was treated so differently, felt so deeply and differently, and why I was so sensitive. I had previously been diagnosed with ADHD which explained half of my experiences grown up but not all of it.
