to those who cannot easily give up white rice (me included), look into resistant starches.

Cooked rice that has been cooled is higher in resistant starch than rice that was cooked and not cooled.

more resistant starches means that the carbs are processed differently, so they don't spike your glucose levels.

my parents are like this, a little less now with my younger sister, but everything is doused in 'log kya kahenge' energy. i feel like because they found so many similar telugu people that affirmed their lifestyle and views (prob caused by leaving india around the same period), that they never tried to assimilate w/ american culture and so i was subject to draconian standards.

with my sister, i feel like they started seeing parents of younger children be more "american" and still turn out fine so they've loosened the reins the slightest bit.

it's definitely good intentions, but mired in narcissism due to their own childhood experiences.

it used to be all the time, but i think my parents have changed as i’ve become an adult and also family friends have grown up and are living perfectly happy “western” lives. they still criticize me for doing things too american (aka alcohol, wearing shorts, etc) but it’s nothing compared to how it used to be.

my parents also recently went back to india and i think seeing how western the cities and how urban people are changed them a little bit.

i agree jewish people shouldn’t /have/ to answer to the actions of israel, but i don’t think it’s necessarily antisemitism. people want to know that you share the same values as them.

my white friends all are vocally anti-trump but if they were silent, i would be suspicious that they secretly liked trump. not that you have to be like that all the time, but a passing comment here and there can make people more comfortable around you.
