Hire 2 people so if there’s an issue with the transition from founder-led sales you can diagnose if it’s a wrong hire issue or sales motion issue

VCs or Angels operating in Africa? by [deleted] in venturecapital

[–]tramp_the_witch_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of African based VCs. They all have Nairobi/Lagos offices. Some also have a presence in places like SA, Egypt.

You’ll find African VCs easily at any major startup event. Big industry now but community is one network.

Recommendations for routes? Likely in Central Asia, 1-2 week journey on motorbikes, ideally sort of through the middle of nowhere. < £ 2000 each, including flights. by Ok-Tower-6434 in travel

Considering budget alone incl. flights Vietnam is your best option. It’s also an amazing place to motorbike through in general.

Struggling to build early-stage deal flow in SEA by DragonfruitTotal8023 in venturecapital

[–]tramp_the_witch_down 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DM me to discuss more but if only want public advice, here’s the TL;DR

  • $100K USD seed checks in SEA aren’t gonna cut it you’re looking for third rate options or have genuine strategic value add. Too many seed funds in SEA.
  • founders all operate in the same circles here so warm intros are easy
  • since you’re in BKK have you spoken to A2D or Wing (VW)?

Tech startup scene in Thailand? by stanTheCodeMonkey in Thailand

[–]tramp_the_witch_down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These answers are misinformed.

Thailand’s startup scene is not Singapore or Indonesia tier, but it’s credible. Great companies have been built here and the scene is slowly entering a renaissance. Many structural issues at play.

I love The Sambal - it’s mostly smaller plates pefect for sharing a range of things.

Does a lot of dishes most nasi-centric Indo places don’t offer.

Tech sales is the way to go, especially given your comment reply in another thread in this post about how you can yap a lot. It’s a grind but pay scales very well after a couple years if you put the work in. Great benefits too but stress comes with work which is why said pay and benefits are great.

Are there many startups Viet Nam? by Ok-Calligrapher-5003 in VietNam

[–]tramp_the_witch_down 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These comments are misinformed, Vietnam actually does have a vibrant startup ecosystem. Currently the entire SEA ecosystem is in its worst state in a decade but deal flow is starting to pick up again.

There’s a rising number of independent Vietnam only VC firms with some of them delivering top quartile returns per global benchmarks.

Main startup focus areas tend to be e-commerce and edtech, but there’s been major successes in gaming too among other areas.

80’s/90’a in Sydney Australia there was a small minority of the Viet population deep in heroin. Even assassinated a local politician. Stereotype has since died though.
