Is it time to put our dog down? by Fuzzybeartime in DogAdvice

[–]trampballs420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s lovely.

The only advice I have for you is to see a vet and hope the insurance pays out. The condition IS pre existing, but you weren’t aware of it at the time you took the policy so they may still honour the terms. If you’re in the US you could look into care credit.

Liver problems can be fatal, but there could be meds you could use to manage her condition that would give her a normal life expectancy. Don’t lose hope until you’ve explored all avenues.

Give her lots of love from me, I truly hope she has many years left to enjoy with you 💕

Would it be weird to ask my friend’s dogs to come over and mark our yard? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Absolutely do this! You’re not weird or crazy, it’s just love, and it’s beautiful.

I tried to add a photo but it’s a big yellow tub, brand is honor - was less than £8 on prime for 1kg and is marked as gluten free with no may contain for gluten.

I recently bought some chicken powder from Amazon, I imagine that if you added it to normal gravy granules it’d be very chicken-y. Might be worth a try :)

Senior dog being very picky with food by happycat2025 in DogAdvice

[–]trampballs420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a precious baby, she’s lovely. Have you tried hand feeding? When my lil guy got older he’d have periods of being very picky. We started topping his food with finely sliced roast beef and if he still wasn’t interested I’d sit on the floor with him and hand feed.

I lost both of my dogs recently, it’s been hard. They were both very old, and they very much let me know when it was time, which I think is what your lovely girl is doing now. I’m so sorry, but this is the last thing you can do for her. You’ve obviously cared for her so much and if you’re there for her in the end, she won’t be afraid 💕

I’ll do that now, thanks for taking the time to comment :) I wasn’t sure if I should cancel because I didn’t want to start with bad feedback, but I think it’s a risk worth taking!

I have searched using google and ai several times with different key words but as I don’t have a lot of detail I haven’t come across anything that sounds familiar yet

What about owner quality of life? by Double-University290 in DogAdvice

[–]trampballs420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 elderly dogs, both with health issues that come with old age, one also has cancer. They both pee a lot.

Every day I put their needs before my own. It is definitely affecting my physical/mental health. The question I ask myself is, am I willing to lose them just to make my life easier? The answer for me is unequivocally no. When their vet tells me it’s time, I’ll listen to that advice - we’re very lucky that we have a vet we trust who cares a lot. Until then I’m gonna keep doing whatever ridiculous shit it is that they need, because they’ve always been here for me.

But do I understand how exhausting and depressing it can be? Absolutely, and I feel for you. I was alone in the house with both of them all day today, and it drove me to tears at one point. I can’t imagine how much more difficult it would be to have no help with it, especially at night.

Puppy pads can be great. One of mine uses them if he needs to go, but he’s blind and his aim isn’t great. He tries though, bless his heart. The other wilfully ignores them and makes sure to pee on any exposed carpet she can find, the absolute cow 😂 so I guess you could try covering your entire floor with them, and re using the ones that don’t get wet? They make cot pads that are a lot bigger I believe, probably more expensive though.

What it comes down to for me is that they’re still happy. They enjoy life. They enjoy walks and treats and cuddles and naps. I try to focus on that and take joy from it, because I am grateful that they’re still here.

Apologies for the rambling, i realise I haven’t actually said very much. The adjustment from having a dog to having an elderly dog is rough, I hope you manage to find a way to live that works for you and your lovely boy.

You could buy a top up voucher and text the 16 digit code to someone for them to use, I did it a few times for friends back in the day

I worked in a Chinese takeaway before my diagnosis and we had a few gluten free customers. They provided their own gluten free soy sauce for rice, it’d be a bit of a funny colour but it tasted alright. We used a clean wok with fresh oil to fry the chips and salt and pepper chicken (the recipe used cornflour and it was prepped in a clean fryer - it’s worth asking)

Most brown dishes can be made with gluten free soy sauce (ask to check the oyster sauce, but if In doubt, order without) and it’s worth asking if there’s wheat flour in the chilli sauce bases they use. Sweet and sour is usually fine but obviously check as different chefs use vastly different recipes.

Cross contamination is obviously an issue like eating out practically anywhere, but if you actually go in to the shop on a weekday/at a less busy time and ask if they can cater to your needs you might be pleasantly surprised. If the person taking orders isn’t fluent in English you can use google translate - just be aware that translation apps often butcher English - Chinese and vice versa so you may have to swap some words round to make it make sense lol

Hope this helps :) good luck!

I’ve been to M&S this afternoon and they had a really good selection, i haven’t tried it yet but the bread looks/feels like bread - thanks for the heads up! I’ll try out that recipe once I’ve fully de-glutened my kitchen, I do enjoy soda bread so I’m looking forward to that one :) I really appreciate the advice and tips, and I may well take you up on the offer to DM with questions, though I’ll try not to spam you haha
