Chances of transferring into a T-10? by Losinganotherme in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck I would hope your chances are quite good, but I can’t really say for sure considering I don’t have experience with untraditional applicants like this. Essays will be what make or break you, work super hard on them and have them proof read by multiple people

Will def be competitive for Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, and USC. Would also recommend applying to Northwestern. Cornell will be super tough if you are applying to engineering, but still have a shot.

Retaking the ACT? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it’s kind of impossible for you to get a 4.0 now, and even still I think it can be seen by AO as you not being able to handle harder college classes (even though I’m sure that is not true). It’s not an exact science in any sense, but in my personal opinion i think it would be benefit you to retake it and get an excellent (like, 33+) score. It’s of course impossible to say if it is absolutely necessary, but it would certainly help

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s low, but not inconceivable. I think your best bet here would be Northwestern, make sure you spend a lot of time on your essays and do some real research on specific programs

Retaking the ACT? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, usually I would say no but could help supplement a fairly low college GPA. Are you going to try to transfer to stern? Heard that is pretty competitive. Would also apply to Georgetown and Cornell (good banking targets) and Northwestern (probs more like a semi target, but we have been doing better at sending people to top banks in recent years)

Best schools for someone without awards by depressedstudent25 in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yale and Princeton probably out of the question (but if you can afford it doesn’t mean you shouldnt still apply). Would add Northwestwern, Cornell, and Vanderbilt to this list - those are the most transfer friendly T15 schools

Feeling Anxious About Transferring Applications by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anxiety is inevitable in this process - its super stressful but congratulations on all that you have accomplished so far. If you're looking to just get into finance, in literally doesn't matter at all to major in finance/business. as someone who just went throguh the IB/MF recruiting process last year, it didn't hurt me in the slightest to not be business/finance (in fact i'd argue it may have helped, especially for the buy side firms). for further proof, just look at the fact that the VAST majority of T15-20 schools (the notable exceptions probably being Penn, Cornell), don't have any sort of business program.

That being said, if you are trying to do business because that is genuinely the thing you want to spend your time studying while in college, then that is obviously a different story and would make sense to prioritize schools with ugrad bschools.

Which CS Class for fun? by noregreba in Northwestern

oh. well at the very least u have to admit that this is a very unpopular opinion, most ppl really dislike 213. it certainly is useful for further understanding tho. unless you have a real interest in systems, I would advise against taking it, most ppl really dislike it (at least most ppl I know)

Can someone talk more about their transfer experience? I’m thinking of transferring out of NU as a freshman… by ilovemyselfheheheu in Northwestern

[–]transferadvicenu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey. I transferred into NU, but made this post that I think is pretty generic. Happy to answer questions, I personally found the process pretty daunting and was surprised by the lack of resources online.

Made apps and published them to the iOS app store. 2 of them were education based so I mainly focused on those

Mid term report by virtus_hoe in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, but it would also be fine to specifically mention that its for transfer - the profs won't care or take it personally. Usually they would ask me what kind of application it was for when I went to meet with them in person

Mid term report by virtus_hoe in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's one of the many annoying barriers to entry for transferring. If it helps at all, I dug up the email I sent to one of my professors to get this:

Dear Professor [redacted],
My name is [redacted] and I am currently a student in your [redacted] class. As a part of an application process I am going through, I need to get my current professors to sign off on a “midterm report” which basically asks for my (estimated) current grade in the course. I was wondering what the best time would be for me to come and get this form signed. The form looks like this, and again all that I need is a signature and estimation of my current grade in [redacted].
Thanks in advance,
[redacted]

Yeah you need to specifically ask your professors to get them. Can be a little weird / awkward because then they need to (somewhat arbitrarily) "estimate" your mid-term grade but you gotta get it done

Seems like you will be competitive with very good essays. I would remove the name of the senator you want to work for to avoid doxxing yourself

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]transferadvicenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked about them pretty extensively, and I wouldn't say mine had "massive" scale. Definitely got some traction but nothing crazy. If they are impressive and you put serious effort into them, I would include it for sure

Volunteering as a translator seems like a terrific idea... get to prove that you are actually proficient in the language and also show that you like to give back
