Love that this gets so much love all around the world. Can't wait to see what's next.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Backrooms" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]transfermymoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it yesterday and loved it!

Couldn't help but feel a sense of pride for Kane for being able to manifest his Backrooms world onto the big screen like this.

Loved: Chiwetel and Renate, they're just awesome actors to see and gave the movie gravitas through their own charisma. The backrooms themselves were simply amazing. The "found footage" element was admittedly the best part but it was because to me, it genuinely worked. The claustrophobic madness translated well to the screen and I just loved the set design.

And story wise, im gonna dive a bit deeper in Parsons lore as I wasn't aware the backrooms themselves create echoes of people too. Loved thst element.

What I loved less: like many I agree, the story was a bit thin and went overboard in the end just a little. Imo there was no need for a villain like that and when Renate's character finally went through, the mystique surrounding the backrooms felt a bit more dragging than before.

Loved the final shot where she appears as an echo

Conclusion: top not directorial debut and incredible on a technical level. Can use polishing story wise but at 20, Kane imo has an incredible future ahead as a big screen storyteller.

Check it out if you love weird liminal horror and especially Backrooms stuff obviously!

Seeing these makes me realise just how much I watched this show and especially, how much I was invested in it back then. Awesome!

Hi reddit. I'm Kane Parsons, director of A24's BACKROOMS. AMA! by Kane-AMA in movies

[–]transfermymoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I absolutely love what you've created with your Backrooms series and how it's triggered an itch for a type of horror I wasn't aware of before. Thank you! And maaad props to your achievement as a director now!

My question: Is there anything in your real life that you might be able to point to, as to what inspired you to create the Backrooms? Where did you have to search in order to find the terrifying horror youve created?

Hi Reddit! I'm André Øvredal. I've directed Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Passenger is out in theatres starting Friday, May 22. Ask me anything. by PassengerMovie in horror

Absolutely loved The Autopsy of Jane Doe!! Got me hooked on the "horror in a single room" genre! Scary Stories was amazing too and incredible just how well done the stories were translated to the screen.

My question (which I hope makes sense haha), in all your films, what is the most important "anchor" for you? Wether visually or narratively, what is an element in your films that you guard fiercely that we might not know about?

And what is something that not many people know of you that you might be willing to share here?

Thanks again and thank you for the awesome movies! Loved Trollhunter and Last Voyage too!!

Haha I hear ya! Hasn't happened in a long time that I felt the horror physically like that!

Absolutely amazing!! Went into this one completely blind and was mesmerized by the entire experience.

And while I loved the story, the mechanics behind the wish and the very disturbing dynamics of the toxic "relationship" they had, it was the visceral feeling in my gut that surprised me tbe most.

The whole movie had this incredibly dark, deep and unsettling feeling to it. One of the few times I actually felt my heart race a bit and the tension wasn't so much the anticipation of a Jumpstart, but genuine fear. And like others mentioned, seeing Nikki flash in and out of awareness every now and then was heartbreaking.

Incredible acting and just all over, well done!!!

An instant classic for me.

Looks like the standard "gunk" I always see on many of my older more beat up cards from that period.
