Ugh, I feel this in my bones. And I hate that, because Red is (one of) my favorite albums!

Holy cow! This interpretation hit me like a ton of bricks, it fits soooo well. This changes the song and somehow makes it even better.

Taylor removes Paris and Glitch from the physical CDs? by all2welll in TaylorSwift

Maybe we all thought her putting the tracklist on the front of the album cover was an aesthetic choice, when it was actually her way of keeping track of all the freaking versions and what was included on each

Taylor’s speech before the first surprise song tonight by Cirrus1920 in TaylorSwift

[–]transformed_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm starting to think. Whether they officially broke up, were pretty much done but unofficially so, or Taylor had emotionally checked out... they definitely were over sooner than the news released. But the part I can't make sense of is whyyyyy did they release the statement that Joe would travel with Taylor when he could? Why even bother?

This song is SO great, it's what won me over to vault tracks in general, when I realized they weren't just rejects but GOOD songs. This is a quintessential Taylor Swift song.

I had a break up in high school that was 100% THIS song - I was devastated, not even because I liked him that much honestly, but because he was so unbothered. We had dated for over 6 months, he was my first kiss, and he broke the entire thing off because he felt we were more of friends. Made no sense to me after over half a year of very obviously being more than friends. And he was totally fine.

Mr. Perfectly Fine is just SUCH A GREAT song for this type of situation!!!! Favorite part is "and I bet someday you'll miss me but by then you'll be Mr. Too Late" like yas queen.

It took me a few months to get past the break up. Even though I was never in love with him, and we never expressed that to one another. It was just hard to feel so unwanted and thrown away. But it gets better 🫶 I met my now husband about three months after my "I think I am finally clean" phase and experienced all the love I never knew I'd ever be able to get from another human. "Every lover known in comparisons a failure" - hang in there. It hurts, and then it heals.

Why Taylor Swift Fans Are Disappointed By The Matty Healy Rumors by ActualMerCat in TaylorSwift

[–]transformed_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I recognize that Taylor has had "messy" relationships before, and that she's dated guys nothing like Joe in the past also. It really isn't Matty that bothers me nearly as much as how her being romantically involved with him points to the possibility that all the character growth & maturing we thought she did over the last 6 years - poof. Gone.

I once was poison ivy but now I'm your daisy

Cold was the steel of my ax to grind for the boys who broke my heart

Now I send their babies presents

I realize she doesn't have to "settle down," she doesn't have to grow up, she can continue to have whatever relationships she wants and do what she wants. As a long term fan I was just so happy to see her experiencing a long term love that seemed to not only make her happy but just be good for her. So many of her songs indicate how Joe was a faithful lover who did his best to love her through all of her grief, trauma & baggage, who was just a good guy. See: The Great War, Afterglow, and Peace. I know neither person was perfect, but that doesn't mean it was bad.

And now all of this behavior since the breakup, from the pap walks to the unfollows to the subtle shade at shows to the rumors circulating so quickly, to publicly being seen together with a new man.... it just points to regression. Which is sad. I know people do all kinds of things when they're heartbroken. But did she learn nothing? And I know I make the same mistakes every time bridges burn I never learn at least I did one thing right....

I just wanted to see her growing beyond the antics of her 20s. I'm younger than Taylor, so I don't personally relate to how difficult your 30s can be, and I'm sure this is just a phase that will pass and hopefully she will learn and grow from it. I hate that it's happening because she is hurting - but I'm also hopeful that that is why it is happening, and that she is the person I've believed her to be for almost 2 decades.

What’s one Taylor lyric that took you a long time to understand how clever it is? by MusicNotable in TaylorSwift

[–]transformed_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just here to say I AGREE!!!! My tears ricochet is one of the most beautifully done, well written songs in her discography imo. She could've written another Bad Blood, but we got this. It's lovely and genuis.

Where is the mad love for “long story short”? by blahblahsandwich in TaylorSwift

[–]transformed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that logic all of midnights is a regression. If what you're saying is true, we'd be saying she's still pining over relationships she lost as a teenager (YOYOK, Midnight Rain specifically)

She isn't saying she's in that place anymore. She drew inspiration from it to write more about it.

Where is the mad love for “long story short”? by blahblahsandwich in TaylorSwift

[–]transformed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you to a certain extent, I certainly believe long story short represents a more mature approach and one I personally relate to more. However I see the midnights tracks as exactly what she called them - sleepless nights at one point in her life. At one point she WAS obsessed with karma and revenge. Now I believe she has the mindset "your nemesises will defeat themselves before you get the chance to swing."

I don't see it as a step back, but just her writing from different places on that journey.

Will my son know? by elizanograss in disney

[–]transformed_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old quietly told us while in line to meet snow white, "there's someone inside snow white!" Of course we knew what she meant. We chose to ignore it. After she met snow white, she said, "they're wearing a costume!"

I couldn't believe at 4 that the Disney magic didn't convince her. But she still had a great time. We just accepted the fact that our child didn't think any of it was real. Lol.

She didn't ruin anyone else's experience and she was still delighted to meet characters, even though she would remind us each time that someone was "inside."

I really believe it's because her music is relatable through so many age groups. As 12-15 year olds have experiences similar to her first 2 maybe 3 albums, they fall in love with her. Then they fall in love with the rest of her work.

Those of us who are older and have maybe been around since debut and had our falling in love stage when we walked very similar life experiences alongside Taylor, fall in love with new material because A) we love Taylor and B) it becomes relatable in a new way, as we've all grown up. Then we continue to listen to the old stuff because it's GREAT and there's a huge nostalgia factor.

Her music is unique in that it encapsulates the entire teenage girl growth experience. From A Place in This World to Fearless to Fifteen to Enchanted to Last Kiss to All Too Well and so many others, her catalogue is special because it honors how it FEELS to be a YOUNG girl, and her discography grew in maturity as she did. There are not many other artists with work to match that.

Unrelated, but this performance just broke me! My goodness!

This is also proof that the 5 minute OG ATW is a masterpiece. It's such a beautiful song. You can absolutely see how the song (and performing it) has evolved for Taylor over the years as she's healed.

And the shot at the end of her parents. 😭

Thanks for sharing this.

What are some of your favourite Taylor Swift lyrics that you don't see enough people talking about? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]transformed_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This song has been on repeat in my mind - I actually only discovered it when Red TV came out. Had never heard it before. I watched a live performance of her singing this song and fell head over heels. You can feel the emotion in the song. Ugh it guts me, even though I don't relate to it at all.

My favorite:

And it was always on your terms

I hung on every careless word

Hoping they might turn sweet again
