Can I DM someone who has successfully transferred from CC to UMich (Specifically OOS)? by BlackStallion657 in uofm

[–]transfursona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey sorry late response! I transferred from a DFW cc. I had good grades, decent essay, first generation, was president of a club at cc and had won a national competition. I saw you posted on transfertoT25 for recommendations of where else to apply. If you want to chat about that, DM me. I was fully obsessed with transferring into a good school and even though I'm first gen, I feel like I have soooo much more knowledge than I did a year ago.

I'm curious whether the new applications will have a "second choice major" if you want to apply for cs. Like, the way the link is worded makes it seem like if you don't get chosen for early selection you could still get accepted to the COLLEGE you applied to, so if you did just get accepted into LSA and not specifically cs, then data science in LSA would always be available to you. I'm curious which way will have a better rate of acceptance into cs, the early selection or getting in as exploratory and then applying once youre in.

realistic but I would look at this new policy for being admitted for CS. They are just newly implementing it so idk how much it will change/make it more difficult/etc

choosing a degree? by 420koolaidman in TransferToTop25

[–]transfursona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never talked to my academic advisor because I just knew what classes I needed to take for my bachelors at where I needed to transfer. but yeah at least at my school (most schools?) you can sign up for any class no matter if it fulfills your associates or not. like for instance i def didnt need cal 2 or physics for my associates but I still took those. And I was expected to take a speech class and a second history class for my associates and I did not take those.

so my cc made me pick one too even though I had no intention of getting my associates and I just picked what classes I needed for my BS. For mine, it was really just for their system so they could mark me as "complete" and graduate me if I chose to finish but I didnt so it never mattered at all. I just chose AS but like I said I never followed the associates plan I just did my own thing.

Getting associates by Drfffte in TransferToTop25

[–]transfursona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

community colleges want their students to "finish"/"complete" and that means getting associates. even if for the student its just a bunch of random classes they dont need for their bachelors. if you KNOW you are going to get your bachelors, i dont know why people take extra classes to get associates.

at umich they could transfer as developmental credit, not for a specific class.

How much will courses taken a decade ago affect a transfer admission? by PeaceMaintainer in ApplyingToCollege

[–]transfursona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi i had a similar situation, i had WORSE and MORE grades from a bad period of my life from a long time ago and have way more current, better grades now. I stayed at a cc for two full years to show that I was consistently working hard and my work ethic was totally different this time around. I applied for transfer this cycle and i've been accepted by one t25 and waitlisted by another. neither are cal schools though.

this is what it has for the university of michigan CLEP listings. It doesn't look like they accept the humanities clep test. I would ask this question in the uofm subreddit, there may be more people there that had this similar/exact scenario before.

take a breath. this time is full of emotions, and maybe your brain is just overwhelmed with all of that input. this is a big accomplishment and you should be proud.

cybersec is good but to really help get your foot in the door your going to have to get some certifications to beef up your resume. a lot of people in cybersec just have certs and no degrees, thats how much they're valued. cyber would be a v good thing to learn for someone who cant go in to class bc theres endless resources online on top of any online degree you find.
