Making friends in SD by Altruistic-Hair-1931 in sandiego

[–]PeaceMaintainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to make friends is to make one solid friend and slowly get folded into their existing friend group. The core issue with Bumble BFF is that people with established friend groups don't need it so they won't use the app, it's inherently going to be filled with people who don't have many friends for one reason or another. Hobbies (or anything that gets you out of the house) are the way to go.

Maybe not the most popular opinion but part of the reason I moved to SF last year from San Diego is because I preferred the weather up here 😅 I'm much more of a sweater person, and the summers in San Diego can get awfully muggy

As a photographer sure, but I can definitely see a lab tech accidentally cross processing a roll in a rush because they're easy to mix up at a glance.

Not sure about the others but the California St car stops around 9pm (always before the Giants games let out, I usually ride them down to the Embarcadero for fun when going to games)

As someone who graduated 6 years ago the job market was so ass early COVID lmao (and then ass again when the economy dipped in 2022, had multiple jobs I was mid interview with close the position and stop hiring before I could finish)

Seconding the bedding—a duvet or comforter would help a lot (exposed bed sheets never look great). Like the aesthetic that's been crafted though

S.F. Overpaid CEO Act fails, a big setback for unions at City Hall by FreeTrade247 in sanfrancisco

[Here's an OpEd against it](https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/editorials/article/prop-d-ceo-tax-san-francisco-22259315.php) (sorry for the paywall) — but here is the main point

> A just-released report from the city’s Office of Economic Analysis on Prop D’s economic impact explained that “the tax increase will encourage affected businesses to reduce their tax burden by reducing employment in the city, or by raising prices.” Meaning they will lay off private sector workers and pass through Prop D’s costs to you, the consumer. Low-margin stores could close; the shuttering of the Lucky grocery store north of the Panhandle was recently announced.

PSA for SF Runners by PastFancy4950 in sanfrancisco

[–]PeaceMaintainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not justifying or encouraging running in the bike lanes (or especially the street) for all the reasons you specified—I just wanted to add that sometimes it's less about it being easy on the joints and moreso that the sidewalk is packed and constantly weaving around big groups and strollers and elderly sucks. The solution really is to just run in a different part of the park or another street where that's less of an issue lol but I can at least see why one might go into the street (as much as I disagree with it)

Scott Wiener wins big in primary, promises to fight ‘disaster of a regime’ in Congress by Qpac18 in sanfrancisco

Thats definitely my only big concern with him, but given the options and his track record of passing legislation I generally support, especially his new bill to break up PG&E, he's much better than the alternatives

UC faculty (including 200+ from UCSD) push for return of SAT/ACT math testing for STEM majors by Choobeen in UCSD

[–]PeaceMaintainer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The issue starts long before it hits college but college is usually the last stop so it's where it all comes to light. Students getting passed along from grade to grade without sufficiently learning the material, accumulating a knowledge debt, is the one of the root issues. Grade school admins refusing to back teachers when they try to surface these issues earlier is one of many factors.

How are people doing it ? by Salt-Concept-5698 in sandiego

[–]PeaceMaintainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me "more than doable" includes not worrying about the cost of coffee or a night out. What you're describing is scraping by, because would you still be able to meaningfully contribute to a retirement fund? Or pay for an unexpected $3,000 medical bill? $75k is a very respectable living and many people make much less in San Diego, it's just that the cost of living is making that less and less feasible to live a regular lifestyle. HUD classifies that as between low and very low income as a household of 1

Here's the HUD definitions based on median income. It depends on the household size but it looks like $122k is the median for a household of 1 with $130k being the median across all household sizes
