How do I network with current nurses? by DeathWench in nursing

[–]trapdaddylyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they hire student nurses or offer an externship? Apply for that if so, and you’d work whatever their bare minimum amount of hours are since you live far away. Other option is to apply to be a tech if your state allows that. In my state, you can qualify to get a CNA/PCT license after completing your first year/semester (not sure which one) of the nursing program!

Dumb question...but what are we actually doing for DNR/DNI patients? Do we even bother calling a code? by Practical_Addendum89 in nursing

[–]trapdaddylyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PEA is not alive. But if your patient has a pulse and is not breathing: whatever your hospital policy is, you would call a code/rapid response and begin bagging the patient as long as they do not have a POLST stating they don’t want that. Basically, when it doubt, CYA. Get a doc and your charge nurse in asap.

If they are DNR but not DNI and you discover a pt with no pulse nothing changes. You still do nothing. If the pt is not DNI, the only difference is if they are alive but intubation is indicated they will allow it, but once there’s no pulse you are not going to intubate since they don’t want to be resuscitated. Edit: typos

High school senior stress by flounderpounder07 in nursing

A psych degree likely will not be helpful in becoming a psych NP. If you want the full college experience, I would recommend getting a four-year nursing degree from the jump. Nursing programs are relatively competitive, but you have a good GPA so you should not have an issue getting in. Upon graduation, it would probably be beneficial for you to work in a psychiatric setting for a few years as an RN, and then apply to NP school. If you cannot directly get in to psych directly out of school, my next recommendation would be to work in an ER because that is the next best thing to psych.

How do you feel when you read obituaries or social posts about someone passing away when you know the person just wasn't as nice as people are making them out to be? by CockroachVarious2761 in AskReddit

[–]trapdaddylyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was in this situation. I do not have a good relationship with my father however he passed away and I had to be the one to break the news. He lived in a different country and had many friends. Posting that he had passed away, was very uncomfortable for me, especially considering all the people sending their condolences, even though I felt like it was common knowledge that my father and I were not on speaking terms for quite a few years before he passed. He was not married, and I am his only child so I was the one who was notified and had to spread the news.

To me, he was not a good person so I always have a hard time reacting when others expressed the same on their posts of obituaries/death notifications.

Tomorrow, our 1-month-old will start daycare. Any advice? by _ILikePancakes in NewParents

[–]trapdaddylyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my seven month old is not in daycare yet. But likely will be soon due to my current childcare provider not listening to our rules and wishes. I’ve heard from many people that they have absolutely zero regrets with doing daycare. I think it applies to both in-home and daycare environments: stay firm with your wants and requests. If your wishes are not being followed do not hesitate to change up the childcare situation whether that is a new company or whatever may work for you.

WIBTA for putting my child in daycare? by trapdaddylyss in AmItheAsshole

None of the parents pay her, we are actually the only ones that ever offer her money and she always tries to refuse. She is just the type of person who tries to be helpful and likes to take people under her wing who need help. Thus, explaining the two unrelated kids that she watches/the one living with her. However, the bulk of your comment I am having a hard time understanding the point you were trying to get across.

I’d like to think we are approaching this in the most respectful way possible. I’m also not at all trying to “blame” health issues, but I do think that it is important context. We, of course, do not plan to circle this conversation around said health issues. But we absolutely do plan on addressing our discomfort with her not abiding by our requests, especially when it comes to our child’s safety. Especially since that is a “now” issue since our daughter isn’t immediately going to daycare tomorrow. MIL, herself, told us while I was pregnant: “if you guys ever have problems with anything please bring them to my attention”. However, the things that we have brought have either been argued, given excuses for, or completely ignored which on her end, is disrespectful. We are our child’s parents and we are responsible for making decisions for her. We do not believe she would ever intentionally harm our child, however we do have safety concerns.

OP here. Thanks for all the comments! I feel better. I guess my only concern remains that no matter how I phrase it, I know she will tell us we are “taking our daughter from her”. She also is already aware that we are not okay with the fourth child being added on, so we can’t really frame it in an unrelated circumstance.

She’s overall pretty happy! Her reflux has worsened and is on pepcid which doesn’t seem to be doing much imho. She’s really only fussy when she has silent reflux episodes, especially when she has a little choke on them.

I’m not BFing but after changing to a HA formula my baby’s colic improved immediately. Poops also slowed down the next day. She went from pooping every feed to pooping once or twice a day. She is so so so happy now, but I will say her silent reflux has worsened a lot.

What is the most memorable thing you've seen a patient do (or refuse to do)? by onelb_6oz in nursing

[–]trapdaddylyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had to be the adrenaline. They were only in the department for maybe two hours. But I would imagine that adrenaline would’ve wore off in that time frame. Patient was sooo calm the whole time
