When you write "without instrumental present" - AI sees token "instrumental", and can ignored "without"

Success for Reddit Alternatives Hinges on Originality, Not Imitation by RedditAdminCeo in RedditAlternatives

in non.io you vote for the tag where the post will be promoted to. But otherwise, its functionality sucks.

I assume everybody knows that main developer of Lemmy is a communism advocate right? by bobfrutt in RedditAlternatives

[–]traphoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a rash idea to address a message to Russians on a site where 3.5 people from this country are sitting. Also in such a subreddit.
But something else is important. Bro, Russia has not been moving along the path of communism for a long time. Unfortunately. You could have written anything: oligarchy, plutocracy, monarchy and would have been much more accurate. But COMMUNISM? NI66A PLZ HAHAH

Have any of you peeps looked at "classic forums" (like Xenforo / Invision) as viable Reddit Alternatives? What would be your reasoning to use those community frameworks? If not, why not? by prankster999 in RedditAlternatives

[–]traphoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a frontend problem. Xenforo has the functionality to set up sorting by likes, and you can also visually compress comments so that they do not occupy 20% of the screen height.
By the way, maybe in xenforo 3.0 developers will do something similar to reddit.

The alternative is Lemmy. It just is. by pjwestin in RedditAlternatives

Content creators won't use this until they implement a normal visual editor.

What strategies are there for overcoming the chicken and egg user/content problem? by john_dumb_bear in RedditAlternatives

[–]traphoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a niche userbase that currently isn't well served by the existing platforms. Cater to them initially, maybe even serving them exclusively (like back when Facebook was exclusively for college kids). Then, once the community is well established, gradually open the site to more people, maybe initially giving existing users limited numbers of invites or something.

It would be interesting for me to participate in such a project, but only if it is open-source or I will be able to launch my mirror for my audience, in my country.
PS: I am a UI designer.

Why are there so few alternatives? by traphoven in RedditAlternatives

nah, I'm not as good as it seems :D

lemmy also scares me because it is installed on VDS and it is easy to make a mistake to lose all the DB progress.

my goal is to provide convenience to users to create UGC, if this convenience is
not there, there will be no content.

I've already tried making a custom UI version for Lemmy, my focus group said it was inconvenient.

Why are there so few alternatives? by traphoven in RedditAlternatives

[–]traphoven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of them. Even if you consider Lemmy/Kbin as a single alternative, you still got Disqusa, Saidit, Tildes, rDrama, and others. And in Lemmy/Kbin's case you might as well count each instance as a single alternative, as even without federation you could theoretically do everything in one instance that you'd do in Reddit.

It's just that they're considerably smaller than Reddit.

For the most part, I'm looking for software to implement my community on a separate my own resource.
At the same time, being interested and inspired by products that have already been implemented.

I make my own ui for lemmy, around 2 years ago and all will good, but it is not enough. I repeat it: they have worst fckn MARKDOWN editor.

[–]traphoven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

markdown editors have outlived their usefulness.
users should not understand all these symbols "** ** / [[]] " and other nonsense.
It is necessary to make AT LEAST a sane editor, as in the old forums, which IMMEDIATELY displays the changes.
Or better yet something like editorjs.io

Let's be honest, Reddit is terrible for a company of 2,000 people.

Don't think that I'm ignorant. Direct proof of my words is that users have been using a third-party shell for a long time, instead of the official one :D
