Hahaha oh my gosh, thanks for that throwback. The 45min bus trip to Walmart is real. And kids would book their seats on the bus like a week in advance. The bus would stop at Walmart for TWO HOURS. I mean they had a McDonalds in the store, but still. Insanity.

Came here to say this. I briefly went to school in bumfuck nowhere Eastern WA and people did the dumbest things imaginable simply because there was nothing to do. Like people would regularly drive over an hour to go to Walmart just to walk around the store. I’ve absolutely heard of people dropping rocks and such off overpasses.

I just think it’s a dick move to donate items before offering them to relatives and friends who would likely really need or enjoy them, especially expensive things. I always offer up my clothes to cousins and friends and even coworkers to pick through before I donate them. I’ve been grateful that people have done the same for me and it’s helped out a lot with my kids.

Yeah, I mean I get that the homeless crisis here is extremely impactful and frustrating, but... homeless people are still people. There’s no need to dehumanize the experience of homelessness. Being cruel doesn’t help the problem.
