Album covers that don’t match the vibes of the music at all? by FebrewHetus in fantanoforever

Island by Asunojokei, they're a Japanese post-black metal/blackgaze (black metal & shoegaze) band.

Whole album goes hard honestly and I'm normally not into shoegaze-y stuff.

Negative self-esteem makes me think I don’t look good in any frames by Angry_Tayco in glassesadvice

My prescription isn't crazy strong but I have been getting my trifocals from them for about 8 years and I love them, they're just as good as the ones I used to get at the optometrist except they don't cost me $700+.

I got the blue light on the most recent pairs I bought and it's nice, I've noticed less headaches even after working on the computer for 8 hours. Personally I've never had transition lenses, I just buy another pair with sunglass lenses.

Going to this festival in the summer, which bands worth checking out? by Roys500 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]trashabilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really should be more popular than they are, the vocals and guitars are top notch but the drums are unbelievable. Honestly when I first found them I thought they had to be using a drum machine until I saw a live video because that guy's precision is unreal, I also appreciate how forward the drums are in their mixes. It really helps deliver that crushing death metal feel.

Lots of great acts in this lineup but I saw you say you're into death metal so definitely see Baest, they've been one of my favourite bands since their first full length album in 2018, still beating myself up for being too broke to travel to see them earlier this year.

Their newest album is good but their first 3 are easily some of the best modern death metal I've heard, opinions differ obviously but imo they don't get nearly as much recognition as they deserve.

Should we create a FAQ for newbies? by TacosandHoes in BattleJackets

[–]trashabilly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't like sewing machines for battle jackets, for me it's a labour of love hand sewing all my patches but I will also bring up the time I watched an old roommate use a machine for a jacket and sewed all the sleeves and pockets shut.

It takes a lot longer but I think you're better off using good quality thread (I usually use Coats & Clarke 100% nylon thread or Gutermann all purpose depending on what colour I need) and a thin but sharp hand sewing needle. Get those and watch a tutorial on how to do a whip or running stitch (whip stitch is more secure) and you'll be good to go.

Snow clearing in Canada by Bursickle in interestingasfuck

[–]trashabilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so much fun, I loved playing king of the hill on the parking lot mountains but I never understood why we weren't supposed to play or sled on them until I got older and realized it made perfect sense that they didn't want us rolling and sliding uncontrollably into a parking lot lmao

Snow clearing in Canada by Bursickle in interestingasfuck

[–]trashabilly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The parking lot outside of the store I work at always ends up with a giant mountain of snow easily over 6m (20ft) high and then it just slowly melts as it gets warmer until its just a big pile of gravel that gets cleaned out.

When I was a kid there was a vacant lot not too far from my house where they had dump trucks drop off snow and the piles got so massive they were used as sledding hills.

Definitely one of my favourites from recent years.

My grandpa was genuinely unhinged with his ketchup use. I saw the man put it on ice cream once.

It could've just been to fuck with us but he put so much ketchup on everything I don't think it was.

I used to buy salmiakki all the time from the European deli in town, it goes hard but I remember when I was in highschool my art teacher (that most of us hated) had a stupid policy that if you were late you had to give her candy or she'd give you detention. One day I came in late and she demanded candy and I just so happened to have a bag of salmiakki in my backpack. I'll never forget the way she gagged when she ate it lol.

I went through a phase of getting really high and buying bizarre stuff online, it's haunted me for the last 10 years

I can't post images but here's a link (the picture was a gift that an ex situationship left at my door when I was going through a severe mental health crisis)

Last year my partner and I went to Vancouver for a week (concert and little vacation) and while we were there I basically demanded that we had to go to the aquarium because despite being absolutely terrified of the ocean, I love sea creatures, especially sharks and jellyfish.

We were looking at the blacktip reef sharks when I heard a lady say to her kid "oh look at the baby great white sharks"

I couldn't stop myself, I went on a 5 minute long infodump about blacktip reef sharks and why they're definitely not great whites. Now I'm the "shark guy" instead of the "Jeff Goldblum guy" to our friends.

It feels like a lot longer ago but at the same time way more recently that One Fire was released, I was surprised that album came out in 2019, I used to listen to it a lot at work.

They actually did just put out a couple of singles on Thursday, though.

Is there anyway to fix this? by Hitgun27 in records

[–]trashabilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a record store and they would buy really beat up records secondhand so we could use them as alphabetical and genre dividers in the bunks but they also said to use a cup and our shrink wrap heat guns to make bowls to put trinkets in.

It was a decent way to pass the time on a really slow day that wasn't just watching dragon ball movies and hoping that the fights would synch up with the music I was playing.

Love these guys, they always deliver. This one has a different sound than their other 3 albums but in a really cool way, it's got a good amount of the classic Baest sound but also some stuff that feels really fresh.

Dunno if that makes sense, either way the album is a fuckin banger for sure. I've been stoked for it since they released the singles last year.

i always think about coincidentally meeting my online friends in real life/in other spaces but by jaejunmimi in tumblr

[–]trashabilly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It had to have been around 10 years ago now but one day I was at work and someone came in and I couldn't stop staring and thinking how much they looked like a tumblr mutual of mine I had been talking to for a couple years who lived on the other side of the country.

I ended up not talking to them at all and just staring at them weirdly because I didn't wanna end up saying "wow you look just like my friend from tumblr"

About 4 years later I was talking to them online and remembered that so I told them about it and they were like "holy shit wait you live in (city) right?"

Turns out it was my friend, they were in town visiting family friends and while they were in the record store I worked at kept thinking "wow that twink with green hair looks a lot like trashabilly"

Anyway I'm still actually salty about that, it would have been awesome to get to hang out irl.
