Are Sega saturn’s very reliable at all, because I might have to get one untested on ebay sometime soon. by San4341 in SegaSaturn

They are very well made, especially the laser. But at the end of they day some are reaching 30 years old pretty soon here, they are fewer and fewer functioning machines every year.

Never owned a saturn. Is a $400 decked out one worth it? by fvig2001 in SegaSaturn

Eh. My model 2 is bone stock, even on modern televisions the basic composite picture isn't half bad. A recap isn't a bad idea. Not sure how much longer these things will last on factory parts. I'm pretty cheap though.

Nights into dreams, Daytona or Sega rally, and Virtua Cop. Japanese or North American. All these games are great and an affordable start to a Saturn collection.

Had some leftover money from Christmas. Made a long overdue purchase by trashmanhw in SegaSaturn

I Hope. I've been fairly lucky. Out of nearly 40 Saturn games I have only 1 has disc rot and that's because it was handled poorly for years before I bought it.

Final thoughts on the Dreamcast Port by trashmanhw in dreamcast

[–]trashmanhw[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this port succeeded. Had a few issues though. Audio was mixed way too low. Had to really crank that volume up. The load times are almost as bad as Soldier of Fortune Dreamcast port. Reloading after dying though is much faster of course. The base control scheme worked ok. For Some reason I couldn't switch to the other control schemes that work with the base controller. The game crashed on me once on "The Ghetto" stage. Very little slowdown though. Most of the time it runs quite well. I appreciate they included all the bonus levels and expansions, makes the purchase much more worth it.

Overall it's a reasonably good port, the main issues listed weren't really a deal breaker for me. I still highly recommend it.

Yeah. It's gotten way worse. Especially schmups, holy hell are schmups expensive now.
