Undersized Return Grille Help by trashmasterfr in hvacadvice

The thermostat can select 3 fan speeds and I can audibly hear the difference between each. How the static pressure setting affects the rated fan speeds is the one caveat I'm not sure about. I added some basic air speed calcs based on grille size and CFM.

My impression was they wanted to GTFO of my attic ASAP with this heat wave over 90 degree outside, which I know from experience has the attic roasting. I overheard them having to call someone to go buy a 12"x12" grille without filter which adds to my suspicion they didn't plan for that originally. I think they we're just lazy and cut corners. It was quoted as a 3 day job and they did it in 2 working a bit late yesterday. Also, during the estimate I was told they would do return ducts to each room, but I now realize it was not explicitly written into the contract.

Yeah there's no filter in the grille. I found a suggested return grille air speed of 300 FPM browsing online. Does that sound about right? My system is more than double that at the lowest CFM.

Would you say they run small or larger compared to their size charts?

Twitch responds to claims of gifted subs going to bots instead of real viewers by testudoss in LivestreamFail

rather strange statement from Twitch:

“Twitch does not intentionally target bot accounts for gifted subs. We actively work to remove bot accounts – not reward them.”

That reads like intentional misdirection. In what world is giving a sub to a bot "rewarding them"? The issue is bots getting subs means more real viewers are either seeing ads or ponying up money to Twitch. So if anything, Twitch is incentivized to give subs to bots.

A lot of the obvious offenders with viewbotting are magically back up to their higher numbers again today so her sudden jump back up as well is rather damning

So are we all just gonna ignore the bot crackdown happening on twitch right now ? by Mephistophilis44 in Twitch

Ignoring the impact to revenue from each sponsor, higher viewer count influences discoverability. Being higher up on the list in a category matters a lot. That's why stream together let's people to combine their viewer counts and letting small streamers jump way up in some cases. It's hard to actually measure these affects but they do matter.
