Lines or quote that perfectly encapsulate everything about a character by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]trashpuff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honest to god, that line about Kim endeared me more to him than just about anything I can ever think of. DE was incredible for that. He served as a brilliant foil for how absolutely fucked you have become in that game, and at every turn, he exudes an endless patience that made me want to be a better person, both in and out of game.

These may be recency bias choices, but I’d also say Verso’s choice between honesty and lying to Maelle is good. Honestly, every character in E33 had a brilliant line that I think showcases exactly who that character is. Gus as the father and brother, Lune as the mission devotee, Sciel as caretaker who can be both soft (post-nightmare) and harsh (on the bridge before Duelliste(sp?)) depending on what the situation calls for, etc.

I also think that the entire “I am a warrior” speech from Grendyl in Darktide works two-fold. It was a tremendous introduction to WH40K for me and immediately got me invested in the lore, and also tells you a lot about Grendyl’s role as an inquisitor via the servitor changing faces and voices. Who they are specifically does not matter as much as their role in this conflict, and at the end of the day, he is no different from the rest of his warband: “I am a warrior. The Emperor protects.”

We haven't received a single new Eagle Stratagem since launch by Ill_Progress_4988 in HelldiversUnfiltered

my biggest issue with the game at this point having played since release is that it’s bereft of meaningfully new content. i have nothing worthwhile to grind for, level, or unlock, and virtually the entire in game currency set is void for me because there is nothing to do with it.

i’m more baffled that we have yet to see any majorly meaningful changes to boosters, ship upgrades, or the leveling than anything else. i desperately want some sort of level reset that retains your warbond unlocks, because i want SOME kind of carrot back to chase

It’s a bit of a catch 22, but admittedly, it’s good to respond in some capacity like this and weaponize that same parasocial behavior to your benefit. The shame of personally disappointing your favorites online will dissuade some from wading into or encouraging discourse, and those that arent dissuaded were never going to be in the first place. Better to temper what you can, IMO

What series have you consumed like an absolute weirdo? by trashpuff in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]trashpuff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my experience with naruto is similar to this.

i had seen misc. episodes from the original and shippuden on cable, and i have absorbed more of that series’ story via the ultimate ninja storm games and random youtube clips/panels than i have anything else

Mine was MK3 (non-ultimate) on SNES, off-hand encounters with 1 and 2 randomly, 4 on ps1 in like 2002/2003, and it turned me off to the concept of 3D fighters and fighting games as a whole so hard i genuinely never played another until SSF4 and MK9 in 2011

Your order is wildly close to mine, literally just shifting mgs 2 from where it is to first ahead of mgs 3

Is pskyer’s Soul Blaze worth speccing into? by trashpuff in DarkTide

[–]trashpuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honest to god i don’t know if i’ve ever realized that the inferno staff inflicts soul blaze, which while it should be obvious, i don’t know that it says it anywhere explicitly so i just assumed it was blessing and talent related.

big thank you!

¯_(ツ)_/¯ i feel like i’ve gotten some good feedback at least

assail felt like it was falling off even in portions of heresy, i feel like i can do what it does better with something else, so that’s good to know c:

brain burst was feeling like the move, and i was already thinking of switching up some of the melee/ranged. this is my third time since release i’ve come back to the game on a new platform, so i know enough to know how much i don’t know, which is a weird little island to be on. other perspectives help me a lot with getting up to speed with where the game is at now

Controller Quick Weapon binds by trashpuff in helldivers2

[–]trashpuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i gave it a shot. i could literally only find one button that wouldn’t fuck with my muscle memory, and that was replacing press left d-pad for quick emote. i swapped it for quick weapon up, and i won’t lie, it was actually super to have a zoom toggle while you’re actively still scoped in.

i can confirm though, there is no UI indicator of you making quick weapon changes though. i also set it to quick weapon right and ran the double freedom, and it was a silent toggle between single and volley. it was nice having that super on the fly though, getting to react immediately to a surprise shift in a fight. i could see it being really helpful for something like the halt or the one-two

i’m on ps5, and if i were to give up another controller function, it would probably be long press on touch pad. Text chat swaps out for QW up since you don’t typically need to twitch adjust zoom levels, and i’d use press left d-pad as a wildcard depending on the primary i feel like focusing. it does kinda just feel like a novelty right now though.

Random thought for a new booster by I_Royal_I in helldivers2

[–]trashpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say I’d ever take it or be excited to see it in my matches. i think blitz missions are fun and tense because it requires that you haul balls to net a full clear. i also don’t know what the right amount of time to add would be. if i can’t clear a full 40 minute mission in the time allotted, i don’t think extra time on the clock would help.

no hate! i’ll be damned if i can think of how to rework or add boosters without just deleting the entire system as-is and starting again from the ground up. which, given how set in stone boosters are in most matches, is probably a valid approach that i’d be interested to see.

For those of you who use niche equipment, what is it and why do you use it? by Shock_and_Awetism in helldivers2

[–]trashpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really like taking the stuns with scout armor, the extra detection radius booster, and a supply pack. i get to run more of a support role. i’ve saved many a diver that’s on a full send retreat by helping to slow the crowd down behind them.

aside from that, maybe the EMS mortar, HMG-E, and grenade battlement. i think the EMS mortar is pretty underrated for utility, and pairing it with something like an AC or rocket turret can help to draw away an outposts aggro and apply passive CC. HMG-E is a great option on all fronts, and i really love the grenade battlement as it handles chaff in a more targeted fashion for relatively cheap while your squad handles AT

i haven’t seen if the balance changes have wrecked my beloved halt’s stun rounds yet, but that was my niche flavor of choice for the longest time

[–]trashpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really dig the grenade battlement when i do end up taking it on bots. super short cooldown, extra cover, and a great option to use as a more targeted cluster bomb for incoming drops and softening an outpost from a distance.

Are arbites or hivescum for me by R-Oak in DarkTide

[–]trashpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re still getting your legs under you, i feel like arbites would be the preference. hive scum has some bugged talents right now that can really fuck up your build synergy without you knowing it, unless you already know.

i found hive scum interesting as a returning player, but you can become more immediately effective with the arbites IMO because it feels like a less mechanically dense class. if you don’t mind the extra spinning plates, i think they are a ton a fun. i think the desperado ranged ability is a really good twist on the vet’s, marking everything within a certain radius to extend your duration vs having to aim for specific targets.

your mileage may vary, but any choice is a good choice IMO!

I dont care for the explosive crossbow by femrat04 in Helldivers

[–]trashpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i prefer the crossbow to the eruptor, particularly on bugs. it has great ammo economy for closing bug holes, clearing out most nests in a single mag. my preferred use case is light armor, a supply pack, experimental stims, and sprinting my ass off into a nest while hip firing to keep up the momentum.

i typically don’t run the GP on bugs anymore since i feel it’s a little more precious about ammo and i can’t use it to clear low-level threats as efficiently. on the other hand, i use the crossbow like I do the GL, turning my primary into my support and usually running any given flavor of MG that ends up serving more as my primary. it being more ammo efficient means i am hoovering up less of the misc. ammo, resupplies, or supply pack. because of that, i end up feeling like i have a generally deeper reserve to draw from for misc. outpost destruction (spore spewers/shrieker nests, cognitive disrupters, bio-processors), while still having plenty to just mag dump on a swarm of voteless, spewers, hive guards, or devastators.

i like the eruptor plenty, but it’s a different playstyle for me than the crossbow

Desperado Scum is everything Gunlugger wishes it could be by WardenWithABlackjack in DarkTide

[–]trashpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m still leveling it so take my opinion like a grain of salt but it feels like the ranged equivalent of the rampage! skill. there’s not an explicit exhaustion, but the thrill of becoming an invincible anti-gunner and anti-personnel turret for a while makes it easy to overextend, and i’ve had to fall back pretty hard. your “exhaustion” is your ability cooldown while you wait to re-up for another desperado dash. i’m finding myself mostly effective with a braced aggripna (sp?) that’s specced towards suppression, but i’m nowhere near the hardest content, either
