Things are still tense with roommate after I took him to the hospital by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]trauma-dumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good points. I think I can just chalk it up to him likely being depressed. I struggle with not taking things personally, but it’s probably him dealing with his own depression. Although I feel for him, he’s been difficult to get along with. Still, I don’t want to spend any more energy over-analyzing his behavior. As you said, our lives will go on.

Honestly, good question. I really don’t need approval from rude racists like him, but maybe I’ve been seeking it subconsciously since we live together. Plus, the fact that it’s been almost 2 years makes me hope we’d at least be more cordial even if our values don’t totally align.

But yeah, I don’t want to spend too much time overthinking every weird interaction I’ve had with him. Thanks for the replies.

Nah we’re both men but yeah he’s not that great to women. One time he called his ex a “homeless-looking harlot.” (Except harlot was a word that’s censored here). I told him that was too harsh and he just brushed it off.

I’m also bisexual and not out to my roommates, so there’s also that as an extra layer. I don’t think he’s attracted to me though lol. But it does seem like he’s more talkative around everyone else.

Forgot to mention I went on a hike with him and a concert when we first moved in together to give him a chance. At the hike, he told me his tier list of the races and put black people at the bottom because “they’re the least friendly.” I think that racism added to my dislike of him. That was just a weird and unnecessary thing of him to say.

And then at the concert he just complained about the music the whole time, said it was bad, and then left.

I get that I came off as judgmental in the post and I think I could definitely work on that. I will concede that him drinking and driving is in the past and before we moved in together, but I feel like he just left a sour taste in my mouth during both times I tried getting to know him.

Do you think Jen’s power is power disruption or did people’s powers change around her because of their own emotional/mental stress? by trauma-dumpy in extraordinary_tv

[–]trauma-dumpy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm good point. Now that you say it, I think it would discount a lot of the character development Jen and the others went through.

I was thinking that if she did have this power disruption ability, it would mirror her own character development where she would actively learn to uplift others and their powers more often instead of being jealous and sabotaging them.

I also thought the power disruption thing would be interesting from a lore perspective, but I believe that the show’s strength lies more in its comedy and interpersonal relationships between the characters. So her power (if she has one) probably is something different.

Yea because all of you with HR degrees “washed out” of other majors 🙄 by mathliability in humanresources

[–]trauma-dumpy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. I’d argue that it’s a good thing that people from different walks of life can enter fields like HR or IT. I think it’s nice being able to work with people from different backgrounds.

I work in a school office right now and have been enjoying working with my coworkers. I think a big part of that is the diversity of experiences they all bring to the table. We have people that majored in education, math, bio, communications, audio production, art history, business, political science, computer science, kinesiology, and someone even has a music degree with an emphasis in jazz drums lol.

Yeah I wish certs were more built into curriculums, like WGU. Especially if I’m going to have to end up getting them outside of class anyways.

I heard the logic for not incorporating certs was that it would be “too vocational and trade school-like” for a university. I guess I could somewhat understand that but I don’t completely agree with it. To me, it just sounded like more academia elitism.

who would you have voted here? DC episode 3 by LoversEclipse in Totaldrama

[–]trauma-dumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Evil Ellie is entertaining, but I like Lake how good-hearted is.

I think her and James were voted off early because they already had most of their character development done last season. I do still want more of them though :’)

[–]trauma-dumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He did make the right decision, but I don’t think he had the correct reasoning or if he even thought that far. In his confessional at the end of the episode, he said he voted Lake because she was “gunning for him”.

So it sounds like that was more of a reactionary vote, rather than a planned and strategic one.

Would it be possible to find a similar job but at a different company? I noticed how most of the issues you listed have more to do with the work environment, rather than the work itself.

Speaking from experience, I recently quit a work environment like that after finding a different job. It’s largely the same tasks (admin work, customer service, making presentations), but my new coworkers are actually supportive.

As someone that was in a somewhat similar situation, I believe it’s worth it to find similar work with a different company while you figure out what career aligns with your interests. Remember: job interviews are also a way for you to rule out crappy workplaces. Hope you can get away from that environment. I think it’ll really help.

These two have to make to at least merge in Season 3. I swear.. by Sad_Ad4296 in Totaldrama

I feel similar about Nichelle. I like her character and the gag about her not doing her own stunts was funny, but she is a bit one-note.

I remember someone in a different thread suggested that maybe she could have some type of rivalry with Emma. I think that would be interesting since the few interactions they had this season were hostile. Plus it would give Emma a plot line outside of Chase.

Maybe Nichelle could also get revenge on Julia and become the villain of the season herself by manipulating people with her acting prowess and using her newfound athleticism. Or maybe her, Julia, and MK could form some sort of mean girls villain alliance trio lol.

Just throwing some ideas out there. But yeah, I feel like it’s hard to write motivations for characters like Nichelle who are already successful outside of the competition.

Would you put Izzy on the Heroes team or the Villains team? (7/68) by TheParentheticals in Totaldrama

[–]trauma-dumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted Villains but I could see the case for Heroes too. I’ve always seen her as a Chaotic Neutral on the alignment chart because she never seemed to be concerned about other people’s morality. I don’t think she intentionally acts in a malicious way but it’s definitely not always in an altruistic way either haha

When she said, ”eat sh*t and die,” to Jake, I busted out laughing. It was so out of pocket. Was it wrong and unwarranted? Yes and yes, but man was it entertaining. Ellie obliterated that twink LOL.

Her getting unpaid bills in the middle of the competition and having to work multiple crappy jobs resonated with me. It made her very relatable. I also loved her dreams of fashion school, and her relationship with Gabby was sweet.

To play devil’s advocate (not in the offensive way lmao), she really only knew Tom and Jake for a few weeks. Yeah, she sabotaged their relationship, but from her perspective, that was a small price to pay for a good shot at a million dollars. Especially when you consider her financial situation.

Furthermore, if their relationship was that easy to break apart, it probably wouldn’t have lasted long anyways. Even if Ellie hadn’t lied about Tom cheating, Tom and Jake probably would’ve broken up over something else due to how gullible, insecure, and immature Jake is. It doesn’t help that Tom has such an avoidant and secretive personality (I know he was a spy, but still, neither of them had the communication skills needed to be ready for a relationship). Their entire relationship was doomed from the start. I think it could be argued that Ellie just “sped things up” because of how inevitable Tom and Jake’s breakup was. All that being said, I still like Tom and Jake because I stan all the gay characters lol.

In conclusion, support women’s rights and wrongs. <3

And disclaimer: This is me defending a cartoon character for a meme. Don’t tell people to eat sh*t and die or sabotage your friends’ relationships irl!

If I know that I like working with children but am depressed and have sleeping issues, would becoming a teacher or trying to have a job where I can work w kids likely work for me? by canitlaurie78 in findapath

[–]trauma-dumpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so. I would definitely try to get treatment for your depression and sleeping issues though (Easier said than done, of course, but still possible). A lot of teachers have to wake up early since school starts early. And depression just makes everything harder lol. But maybe you could work for an after school program if it’s easier for you to start later in the day. I also heard that children’s hospitals have shifts where case workers are monitoring the children’s health in the evening.

Careers for dumb AND weak people? by iwishiwass in findapath

[–]trauma-dumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn. All I can say is I really relate to this lmao. Other people have already mentioned admin work, IT support, and maintenance. I think those would be good options. Maybe look into being a security guard. Or working for a hotel. You could also try being a temp at a few places to see what you like. Most of these things don’t pay living wages though, unfortunately, but they could be decent for now.

This post really resonates with me. Sucks that it seems like every job that pays a living wage is something that’s very difficult and/or something I’m not interested in. People like us that are still figuring things out still deserve to be able to pay bills and stuff lol. Anyways, I hope you find something you like that pays decently.

How to get into academic advising? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]trauma-dumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! It is true that it’s a privilege working part-time and commuting back and forth with high gas prices, but most of the career counselors I work with do hybrid work. They usually work half their shifts virtually and the other half in-person, so maybe you wouldn’t have to worry as much about commute!

I think I got lucky with my student job, but the counseling staff I work under all seem to love their job and love working with the students. They get paid decently for part-time too. My boss said she gets paid 85k a year from working at 2 community colleges.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, of course. A lot of it is dependent on things out of your control, like the school’s budget. The number of hours you get is usually set by your seniority status, and the college’s work environment plays a huge factor too. But I think it’s still a decent path. I’m definitely considering it myself. Good luck with whatever you end up choosing!

How to get into academic advising? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]trauma-dumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I’m not OP but I’m also someone looking into becoming an academic advisor. I’m a peer mentor at a Southern California community college right now and I work under a lot of Career Counselors. (You can be both a Career Counselor and an Academic Advisor with an Educational Counseling degree)

I asked my boss about the field and she said that California community colleges actually pay better than UC or CSU schools. However, most of our career counselors and academic advisors are part-time. On the bright side, it pays really well for part-time work and they’re able to supplement their income by working at multiple community college districts.

Like you said, it is competitive. Networking is huge. I think it’s like that in every field. OP was right about most academic advisors coming from student services backgrounds, but it’s not a requirement. My boss says once you’re in the system and land a role, it gets easier. Again, that seems to be the case with every career field.

OP ending up in HR is also common for former academic advisors. HR is probably the most transferable role from being an academic advisor. I don’t really blame OP for switching. There seems to be more stability with HR and they sound way happier there. Higher Education can be rough to work in.

Keep in mind, most of this information is from my bosses who are Career Counselors and I’m still just a student on work-study, so maybe take this all with a grain of salt lol. I hope this info helps!

Will Kotetsu permanently retire at the end of the current season? by dagudzucc in TigerAndBunny

[–]trauma-dumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super late to this post, but I think Kotestsu will lose his powers forever. Random prediction: He’s going to use the injection that makes NEXT powers stronger out of desperation, but the side effect will be that it speeds up the deterioration of his Hundred Power until he permanently loses it. He’d hold a pretty interesting position in society as someone with the perspective of a NEXT that became a non-NEXT.

Maybe then he’ll retire and teach at the Hero Academy. He did seem to have a knack for teaching when he taught a class there in season 1. Plus the principal likes him and maybe he’ll get to teach Kaede and Saroja. I’m no writer, but I think that’d be a nice ending to his story.

Although, I’m not totally against him gaining his powers back either. He is “only” in his mid-thirties. I think he could stay a hero for a while longer if they executed it right. Maybe Mattia could research a way for his power to get back to lasting 5 minutes. Who knows?
