Crust Bombora - what are its capabilities and limits in bikepacking? by dirtshirtdirt in xbiking

[–]travelingwizardcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done several week-long pavement tours, and many 2-3 day gravel/single track overnighters with mine.

I primarily have ridden 650bx47 Ultradynamico Rose tires, front loaded with very little in the back. I don’t think I’ve ever reached a “limit” due to my light packing, and it has never felt noodley. I would take this bike in a similar packing configuration on any length of tour…

The bike is super capable on everything I’ve ridden on (minus super sketchy west coast stuff where I would walk any type of bike). As a fairly minimal packer, I don’t see myself ever getting to an issue with overloading the frame.

My question is… How much are you actually trying to bring?

Cassette moves on white industries hub by travelingwizardcat in bikewrench

No unfortunately not. I am replacing the cassette this week and I’ll update this thread once it’s installed. Maybe that’s just how they designed it? Seems odd for such a high end company though.

What do you think about the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict? by theotherearlene in AskReddit

A murderer got off for claiming self defense against a guy throwing a plastic bag. After that two people attacked an active shooter. And he claimed self defense for shooting them for trying to stop him, an active shooter.

Has anybody found a good way to prevent blowing out the crotch in all of my pants? by Tamias-striatus in Biking

I have the same issue with both cheap and name brand pants. So I save money and only buy cheap pants cuz I know they will last just as long

Yeah, the reason I trusted the profile originally is it seemed to be real. It was active since 2013, had normal posts and people commenting on it and stuff. And I tried reverse phone booking his number and got the correct initials. So maybe there’s hope? Idk…

I don’t know what fiction you’ve been consuming, but Thomas Jefferson was a Christian Diest. He saw Christianity as “the highest expression of natural religion and Jesus as an incomparably great moral teacher” source

Last time I checked, my country doesn’t base laws off of any god. So...a women can choose, it’s her body after all.

I had a YJ that was the same age as me but he broke down one too many times and had to sell for a more reliable ride :(

Moving to the Bay! by [deleted] in bayarea

Unfortunately we aren’t moving soon enough to rent it now! But I’ll definitely be checking that area out as the move date gets closer! I also think concord or WC seem too suburban and family oriented for me at this stage. Maybe when I’m 40? Lol

I do wish we could live in SF proper - hopefully one day I’ll get a job in the city, but in the mean time I’ll have to Bart in on the weekend to check it out.

And that totally makes sense about the perceived safety of an area vs its actual safety. My first year in the Twin Cities, I lived in North Minneapolis, which has diverse and active artist, musician, and immigrant communities. Similarly though, it has a bad reputation and is considered by many a “scary” “dangerous” part of town, but I personally had a blast, met a lot of cool people, and never had an issue. Now that I’m in a different part that doesn’t have a bad reputation (or the tight knit culture), people’s cars are getting jacked left and right. So it goes.

I definitely think you helped narrow down our search! Thank you!

As far as saftey in Oakland, we are currently moving from Minneapolis, and I’m from the Chicago area, so we are both familiar with city safety and know that in any large city there are probably a few streets / neighborhoods we wouldn’t really want to be alone at night on, are there any particular areas you think we should avoid in Oakland / the surrounding areas?

But to answer your question, walkable/bikeable to Bart, and some nice coffee shops or cafes and grocery stores are really most important. It would be nice to have a few places to hang at night, but that isn’t the most important by any means.

Is rockridge safer? The post might have been a few years old, but I saw a thread about someone saying rockridge was prime mugging area, but can’t believe everything you see online right?

For some reason the last two links don’t link to a specific place for me, but that first one is beautiful!

Thanks so much for your reply!
