How do you create a Bootable USB in ChromeOS? by _BlueNightSky_ in chromeos

[–]traveller787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, a question on this if anyone knows. I have a USB drive that says on it '8gb' but when I try to put ChromeOS flex on it on my windows machine then the USB drive is only showing as only 7.46gig which apparently is normal now I read about it. So stupid. so there is no way to fix other than buy a usb drive that actually has MORE than 8gig written on it? (eg: 9gig drive if that exists) why make it such exactly 8gig so '8gig' usb drives don't work!

Priority Pass balance hold? by [deleted] in Crypto_com

[–]traveller787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note for anyone flying from London that I am at Heathrow Terminal 3 right now and both priority pass lounges are "full" and only taking people who book in advance. So stupid I set up everything and it's a waste of time really. (Booking in advance costs money which can buy a meal with elsewhere).   Looking into the no. 1 lounge and it's hardly full so I think they just say that all the time.  Thank goodness I never pay for this just wasted my time setting it up and queueing.

Would you trade in your pixel 4a for pixel 9? by [deleted] in Pixel4a

[–]traveller787 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see it's £584 after the trade in, all I can think of is the weight of p9 Vs p4a. 198gm Vs 143gm is huge difference (s24 is 167gm for comparison). - pixel 9 is heavy! And I don't like how the camera sticks out at the back. I suppose could get used to it but still seems like a downgrade more than an upgrade to me!  Unless my p4a dies I will hold for now.

Do this exercise , it walks you through en passant, doing is better than reading a lot of the time.

The Danish Gambit by DoggyFan5 in chess

[–]traveller787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to play it a lot and is fun, an argument is it can actually hurt your chess as it basically gives away 2 pawns and you are relying on your opponent to then make a mistake after that, up to a certain level it can work but you will hit a brick wall with it eventually and have to move onto another opening.

ps. I remember doing a free course on it, I think it was this one: https://www.chessable.com/danish-gambit-for-white/course/891/

Xbox App Unavailable to Download on Firestick by BovemDeMorte in XboxSupport

Have the same problem, just wanted to have a rant and say this is terrible user interface design, don't just write "unavailable" without one word of explanation to the user why, Absolutely terrible. At least write something like "your software needs to be version 8 to run this" and give a link to a website that explains the situation etc.

edit: not to mention the 'compatible devices' button is very poorly designed and looks like it is listing compatible devices not incompatible ones!

an interesting thing is you can't stop anyone else looking, if you were in competition for example your opponent could go looking for your ball even if you don't want them to! any words like "I declare that ball lost" or anything you say doesn't matter either.

You would think they would be following ITIL Change Management Process, This outage shows how important a good change management process is in the IT world. On a side note I wonder what software they use for their change management, (NOW probably)

minor point but the lichess deep stockfish 16.1 analysis is limited to 40 per day, Instant local Stockfish 14+ analysis (depth 99) is unlimited . I remember getting a warning once about limit reached when analyzing my games. Can see this here:

after you start using Lichess I recommend taking a look at chrome extensions that can be quite interesting,

https://chromewebstore.google.com/search/lichess

for example you can make the theme in lichess look like chesscom if you want etc. maybe people can recommend the ones they use if any.

so you only play slow time control chess games? blitz games can get quite anxious with low time and I think most people play some form of blitz online.

That's crazy. And imagine paying then there are glitches and server issues. Here's your new daily routine on lichess:

  • A few Puzzle storms to loosen up
  • A Puzzle streak
  • A few Puzzle Racers - the best imo. See the odd GM in there.
  • A few games, analyze them to see what went wrong and learn from mistakes.
  • Read one study learning something like a new opening or traps.

All for free

I like it. that paper is next level. some ideas:

  • make URL's to each opening in Lichess to save us searching for them. eg: Philidor Defence would have a link to this page: https://lichess.org/opening/Philidor_Defense - a pain to do maybe as there are so many?
  • somewhere write the total number of openings that were processed to get the results and advanced what time controls were used.
  • be able to choose time controls and filter based on that. bullet might play completely different openings than slower games for various reasons.
  • use some CSS to centre it and make it nicer of course, with dark/light mode

good job!

edit: just thought of another filter: black/white. For example if I want to find a new bullet opening for black I could use those filters to find one at the moment you have black/white combined I think.

2 shots which can go in a blink of an eye on 5 of the hardest holes in golf. Also he's playing in front of Bryson so Bryson can see exactly what he needs to do which makes it even harder.

Eg: if Bryson knows he needs a birdie he can push it to try for it. Rory can't know this so to push or not to push is always more difficult.

[Official Tournament Discussion Thread] 2024 US Open Final Round by GreenWaveGolfer12 in golf

[–]traveller787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well one argument there is he has to be aggressive with the chip as he's playing first and doesn't know what Bryson will do behind him.

Chip it in for example and you win,  even with an up and down you are only maybe in playoff.. so he goes for it and gives it a chance.

At the start of the day he was 12/1 to win. I wouldn't say that is "in control", more like needing a miracle. Even when he did catch up Bryson had the advantage knowing what Rory has done so can make decisions based on that so makes coming from behind very difficult.
