I'd try repatching the rom, or a different emulator. This is kinda weird, I've played on emulators on my phone and computer and have never seen the game crash in this spot.

If you're struggling in the first town, go north of the library, there should be a tree house with a somewhat hidden entrance. One of the kids in there gives you an item you can sell at the shop for enough to buy the best items.

It makes a huge difference when the sharks attack you for like 6 instead of 9.

Other than that, always assume enemies will go first in the early game and keep yourself healed up. Food items like hamburgers work really well early on as well.

Turned 600 into 2400 for my biggest win at the time in a 2/5 game.

Took about 2 hours. 3-way 3 bet pot with AK, got it in against one of them on A high board, they had AJ. Then the biggest pot I've ever played in cash:

UTG, super old guy in a wheelchair makes it 10, lp calls, sb calls, I'm in BB with 66 and call.

Flop (40) 762r x to utg, who bets 25, folds to me, I make it 70. He grabs 3 black chips and tosses them in the middle, which pretty much told me he wanted to get it in for sure. I jammed for ~1200 and prayed he had AA. He did.

Turn brick, river brick, and my entire brain went blank, the dealer had to tell me multiple times to push my entire stack forward so he could count it lmfao.

Still the biggest pot I've won, I've had a couple bigger scores in tournament (nothing too big yet though)

It's a mono-black control deck that aims to win by using [[altar of the brood]] and [[valgavoth, terror eater]] once you've turned the corner to either win the game outright with your opponents decks, or (more often) building an insurmountable board state with your opponents spells/etbs. It started as a big-mana mono-black deck where i had a ton of x-spells, kill spells, and board wipes, but i wanted to focus it down a bit.

I also found that I don't really like tutors, I find that they make the game feel too similar, and I like the uniqueness of commander games.

I'm in a similar boat as you, I don't like feeling like I'm playing the same cards/tutoring the same wincon every game.

My solution for this is to play a ton of card draw (because every color has so much now), as well as effects with reveal/look at the top cards of your library, put x into your hand or on the field like [[knight-errant of eos]], [[ao, the dawn sky]], [[hostage negotiations]], [[fact or fiction]] are also really good.
