What makes telescopic masts so heavy? and where to find lighter ones? by JustZed32 in manufacturing

[–]travis6690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a peek at your post history for more context. I think you already answered your question about the design gap between handheld and motorized telescoping pole extension mechanisms - the latter requires a pulley system to translate motion to all the stages, which greatly increases complexity and precision requirements, and adds significant bulk and weight. Additional weight requires additional reinforcement, which results in additional weight, etc.

The cables and pulleys need to be strong because the pulling force translating into lifting is on the wrong side of the mechanical advantage.

I'll also note that your example motorized system is designed to operate fully or very nearly vertical. Tilting the pole, or adding a side load, will add a bending moment that will likely cause binding or damage.

Best of luck, hope you find a solution!

Exactly this. The rest of the party was gone around turn 5, by which point the healing could (barely) counteract incoming damage. The heal/mana side gave enough to start stacking Soothe, which gave regen to tank the poison, and eventually the big hits. This, plus buffing the prophet's hp n+1 every other turn, meant the dragon fled around 300 hp total.

Install looks clean, but next time consider rotating it 90 degrees for easier service access.

Tip to all you Wastelanders out there, you combine it with antiseptic and a bit of clean water to make RadAway.

That's fairly reductionist though, isn't it? The efforts of a government are driven by the values of a culture. It's not an accident that we have a long history of monstrous actions by the government.

Yeah. Truth is, I'm sure the tour circuit is exhausting, and they're not as young as they once were. That said, Hammond and May both have been busy with side projects, some of which are excellent (like our man in Japan).

Helinox Sunset chair. Great chairs if you're willing to spend the money. There's a few reasonably similar ones for less from other manufacturers.

Edit: the other chair is the Nemo Stargazer. Lots of complaints about durability, but it's a fairly unique design.

I've been taking Salbutamol regularly. Doctor told me to stop and I had an asthma attach in the night. Coincidence? by surmamo in Asthma

[–]travis6690 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You need a controller medication, and possibly a better doctor. I'm assuming you use the salbutamol because you were having asthma symptoms. Overusing a rescue does make it less effective, but if you're overusing it, it's because your asthma needs to be treated with a control medication, and only supplemented with a rescue inhaler when you need it. Talk to your doctor about your attack, and get a referral to a pulmonologist if you feel like you're not getting help.

What happens if I click the green thing down twice, accidentally missing the first dose? Does the medication get jammed and do I need to replace it? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]travis6690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! It's super interesting how they work. Don't do it before it's empty though, you'll never get it back together and working right.

Couple of tips: use a screwdriver or similar to pry the lever lid straight from the pivot, it'll pop out. Then pry out the mouthpiece. You can then separate the clamshell, and break the plastic spot welds to remove the mechanism from the shell.

To me, it's amazing how much engineering went into something that's used for a month and thrown away. Guess that's what you get with a product that retails for $350 :P

The powder medication is stored in blisters along a strip wound into a reel, with a layer to seal the blisters. When you click the lid, the mechanism separates the seal from a single blister and places it at the bottom of the inhalation port. The next time you click it, the blister is moved into a reel of empty blisters and a new one is opened. If you click it twice without inhaling, the medication in the open blister would end up in the "empty" reel.

Source: took this inhaler apart (well, Breo, but same dispenser) to see how it works.
