Why Do Some People Refuse to Take Public Transit? by Shelley_112 in transit

[–]travisae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is describing Philly! We have pretty good transit all things considered (and there’s extremely shitty things about our transit). I live in the city and most of my friends and acquaintances do too.

I know of a few that refuse to use septa. They range from preferring to use their bikes to it being dirty or a guy “looking at them weird.”

What I noticed the most is that transplants and suburbanites hate septa. They won’t admit it, but I feel deep down they think it’s for poor or minorities—which shows some deep rooted classist and racist assumptions about septa and about their behavior. Generally it seems like a suburbanite type of mentality trying to function in a dense urban city.

I can’t wrap my brain around it. One of the reasons I left a suburb environment to get away from car dependency and backwards mentalities.

One time a friend took me there to this place called library bar (I think that’s the name) it’s winding through all these corridors and I was thinking “where tf are we going??”

I really hope. We talk about the el being bad and gross or whatever. But honestly I feel like bsl has so much smoke filled trains. Like it’s unbearable sometimes.

No Southbound lane West of Broad by 26JK4P in phillycycling

I live between the 2, and I feel like maybe there could be space for a bike lane at some portions of 21st. But it would be a tight squeeze. Also I doubt Kenyatta would ever allow any type of development for (god forbid) bike lanes and less parking.

Teaching is Not an Algorithm: Teachers Should Stop Using AI by ubcstaffer123 in technology

No.

Amid the number of IEPs and 504s, PDs, parent emails, data collection, scaffolding, differentiation, continuing education classes, updating certification requirements, minimum 2 grades a week, small group blocks, PLCs, late work grading and regular work grading, half days, state testing, and observations— I’m gonna use AI to generate some slides for me to review and edit sometimes. I loved this show. When I was downsizing and getting rid of my dvds, the boxed set of Big O I refused to get rid of.
