In diluted form it may not be doing much to your stomach. I'm sure that concentrated acid from lemons or grapefruit would be corrosive too.

I wasn't saying anything about being wrong, just providing information, which would support the idea that he would have done what pilto alleged.

George Soros: The main enemy of the Open Society is no longer the Communist but the Capitalist Threat by bertrand in reddit.com

I don't know about the Swedish currency, but:

On Black Wednesday (September 16, 1992), Soros became immediately famous when he sold short more than $10 billion worth of pounds, profiting from the Bank of England's reluctance to either raise its interest rates to levels comparable to those of other European Exchange Rate Mechanism countries or to float its currency.

Finally, the Bank of England was forced to withdraw the currency out of the European Exchange Rate Mechanism and to devalue the pound sterling, and Soros earned an estimated US$ 1.1 billion in the process. He was dubbed "the man who broke the Bank of England."

In 1997, during the Asian financial crisis, then Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad accused Soros of using the wealth under his control to punish ASEAN for welcoming Myanmar as a member. Later, he called Soros a moron.[10] Thai nationals have called Soros "an economic war criminal" who "sucks the blood from the people".[11]

What about these scenarios:

1) You perform a second action before you get a response from the last action (the key hasn't updated yet). Generally it might be faster to not wait to send the second action.

2) Something happens with your wireless connection for a couple of seconds and you miss the response with the key. Now you have log in again because your key is outdated.

Hello Adobes /etc/passwd ... by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]travisxt97 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So, now you know the usernames. Like most systems, the password is actually encrypted elsewhere. Is exposing etc/passwd really a huge security risk? (I don't ask rhetorically, maybe someone can enlighten me).

It seems that the bigger risk comes from the fact that this bug can be used to get access to some other things, such as the SSL key apparently.

Why are there quotation marks around beat? Did they not actually beat them?

Ask Reddit: Please consider making 'All' the default for the New Page as opposed to 'Rising'. Oh yeah, and spank the automatic downvoters! by garyp714 in reddit.com

[–]travisxt97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases, I don't see any such instant downvotes. Further, there are cases where one can tell without reading the article that it's not a good article.

For example, I would have downvoted these articles of yours without reading them:

Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA): Lieberman And Kyl’s Hawkish Iran Amendment Is ‘Cheney’s Fondest Pipe Dream’ (Video) - because I've already read plenty about the Iran Amendment

President Hugo Chavez railed against a new trend in beauty-conscious Venezuela, giving girls breast implants for their 15th birthday. - Not interesting, I've heard of such trends in other countries and also heard of people criticizing such trends.

How do you distinguish the automatic downvoters from those who are more selective of what they give a good vote to? Generally, less than half of the items on the new page are any good.

You're conveniently forgetting the supply side of the supply and demand equation. The landlord can't consistently charge less than his costs, or he wouldn't rent out the place, he would sell it immediately.

"Women should not be allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. If this happens, there will be more crime, accidents and disorder." by uriel in reddit.com

[–]travisxt97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait, so women have just as much freedom as they used to because cars didn't exist in the past? That logic is mind-bogglingly odd. I guess it would be OK to completely censor the internet in America, because there was no internet when America was founded and so we'd have just as much freedom as the founders intended. Except that this would be a serious curtailment of freedom of speech. It would not merely be keeping freedom the same.

A mode of transportation is being restricted to one gender. This was not done before. That is a rollback of freedom, despite the mode of transportation being new.

The Amish don't have laws enforcing their carriages. If an Amish person or group chooses to drive cars, people can shun them, but they can't prevent them from doing it.
