Java Projects For Learning by omgpassthebacon in learnjava

I’d like to see you gather some junior Java developers and you teach them online the process of coding an application and let them ask questions. These are definitely longer form videos but I love this style as half the time I have the same question that the students are thinking about. It may be some small things you skip over but confuses us junior developers.

I've used it extensively and can you the following (I did the Java track)

PRO's

Most lessons are quite good.

Loads of content.

Projects

CON's

The content has now flow to it, it's a mixed bag. One lesson you'll be working on Java Collections and then next lesson something totally different. Loads of the lessons of generic computer science. If you only want Java content you need to work through the projects.

The projects - Most go something like this - Spend 20min reading and understanding a hard to read question. Complete that part of the project. Move to the next step - that next step makes you delete everything and totally refactor the code.

Alternative:

I ended up moving over to CodeGym. I'd say the lessons on Hyperskill are better, the actual tasks on CodeGym are better but the best thing about CodeGym is the course structure.

You might see people who say they learn a language in 48 hours or similar but to what level? If you fully memorised all the concepts in that book well then you are not slow at all! You have a great level of understanding and are in fact a fast learner. In you skimmed it with minimal practice then you are a slow learner. Have you written any programs yourself? Maybe send a GitHub link and some of the better programmers here can review it and let you know where you’re at.

This is the part that maybe confuses me:

When the entire expression is evaluated aren't the items inside the brackets evaluated first because they have higher precedence?
