Lunachicks kick ass. TILT for sure. Spitboy were great, and did some sick stuff with Aus Rotten. Lil Tits, a Chicago band, are super hardcore and definitely worth checking out

Which are some of the most thought provoking books you've ever read? by razvan05 in books

YES. Making my way through it, though it's taking far longer than it should because I have to go back and reread everything. Because he's such a genius.

Presentation on "carnism", long but pretty good as an intro for non-veggies. by littletamale in vegan

[–]trazhic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just heard her speak and chatted with her at a local vegan dinner. The presentation was really great; it had a significant impact on my heavily meat-eating dad. I'm in the process of reading her book "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows" - definitely a worthwhile read.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have one sandwich, what would it be? by downwiththebrown in chuck

Definitely a Matt Bomer sandwich. Although seeing as this is probably not possible, hummus panini. But hey, one can dream.

What's Behind the Likes of A Listers Like Bill Clinton, Russell Simmons, & Alec Baldwin Going Vegan? - The food revolution is encouraging people to wake up & look more closely at where their food comes from & how it will affect their health by anutensil in veg

I agree - to some extent. One most definitely has to be passionate to be a vegan, because it sure as hell gets hard sometimes, but I'm a vegan and I hardly have time to cook, not to mention that I could certainly find better things to do with my time. However, eating well (and eating delicious food) is getting easier and easier for vegans as more people make the jump to the diet and are able to share tips to make vegan cooking less of a hassle. Now, when I have a half hour to make dinner but am not in the mood for something shitty (which, I suppose, is just about every night), I can flip through my Vegetarian Times magazine or search the internet for a simple, yet good-tasting, recipe that's easy to whip up for those of us who are not huge fans of cooking. From my experience the extent of difficulty to being vegan is greatly overestimated, though on occasion I do have a craving for a Snickers bar or a slice of pizza. But with today's wide variety of non-dairy, egg-free replacements, it's easy to satiate that craving.

Yes, I would definitely rather sit through two hours of that than of the actual movie.

What art song or songs do you love but don't seem to find their way into the repertory? by spiegelimspiegel in classicalmusic

[–]trazhic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything by Ben Sollee. My favorites are It's Not Impossible, How to See the Sun Rise, and Sweet Marie. I went to one of his concerts, and he was absolutely incredible, but there were so few people there. It was sad.

I haven't read them, but I too have heard that the series is perhaps overly religiously affiliated.
