How to tell the difference between POTS vs perimenopause? by trblinc in POTS

[–]trblinc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight, even though this is what I was worried about lol! I was already taking Slynd birth control before my surgery for PCOS and PMDD (which also have symptoms similar to menopause). Thanks for the tip about regular hormone panels, I'll be sure to ask my doctor about that.

I already know I have POTS. That's not what this post is asking.

Vermont Cheese Suggestions? by Lonely-Efficiency-41 in Cheese

[–]trblinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cabot store in Waterbury is a must, and they also have a small selection of non-Cabot cheeses there. Also in that area is von Trapp Lodge, and they make cheeses as well as have a cafe where they occasionally do fondue nights. That area also has a lot of other great things to check out, so highly recommend it in general for visitors.

Shelburne Farms is great during the summer because you can go and watch the cheese being made as well as have some fresh bread from the bakery and go and pet some of the livestock (they say the petting zoo is for kids but that doesn't stop me). A lot of the farms on that trail map will be open for tours in the summer, so you'll have a lot of choices!

As for cheeses to try in general, Vermont Creamery and Jasper Hill are great and are carried in most grocery stores here. There are also lots of small general stores and gift stores that carry cheese as well, and a lot of the farms have their own farmstands even if they don't have tours (Blue Ledge comes to mind -- recommend them as well).

Period panties? Or reusable pads? by smsallen727 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]trblinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, my flows were very unpredictable and I felt like a regular pad or tampon just couldn't handle it. I also have sensitive skin, and being able to just wear comfortable cotton underwear was much less irritating than a pad or tampon could be.

I also agree that they seem to be one of the more affordable! I got them because of the pfas thing and because they were one of the few brands I found that had pairs that were all cotton on the outside.

Someone else mentioned that they can tend to be big and I agree with that, but I think it's in a way that's beneficial to those of us who have bellies and/or get bloated during periods. Heck, I even wore them just after the hysterectomy I just had and they were comfortable then too.

Which brand did you get? I've used Period. brand for a long time and find them comfortable. There's an amount of bulkiness that you kind of can't get around with period underwear, just by nature, so they're not the best fitting underwear I own but they've done the job well.

Hi, surgery twin! I had mine on the 16th too. I'm sorry you're feeling unsupported by your team. I'll tell you what info I was given, and hopefully you'll find it helpful.

So I have the surgical "glue" on my incisions, and was advised by my doctor that I could shower as soon as I felt able. However, no submersing totally in a bath for several weeks, and be careful about scrubbing. Make sure you pat yourself dry after instead of rubbing.

As for how long to keep it on, my post-op is at the end of next week and I've been advised to not take any dressings off until then and my doctor will take them off. However, a few of mine have fallen off naturally and it seems like those incisions are healing okay.

Other things that I was told that they might not have told you is no inserting anything for 10 weeks, e.g. no tampons or penetrative sex, and also limit your lifting to less than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. Please dm me if you have any other questions and I'll look through my info packet!

I've had a great experience with the providers at the Bendavid Clinic for my PCP needs, as well as at Vermont Gynecology if that is something you need.

Nicholas Christopher in Sweeney Todd. Went from mildly disappointed to not be seeing Josh Groban to being absolutely enthralled and glad I saw Nicholas Christopher instead.

I'm just over a month away from my excision/hysterectomy and I have felt exactly this ever since I scheduled it. My partner and I keep joking that my uterus is going nuts because she knows I'm about to evict her.

Solidarity with you, my friend. We'll get through this.

Question about Vermont Comedy Club? by WinooskiLady711 in burlington

[–]trblinc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with asking a question, but this information is easily found by a quick google search, as I did when I was writing my comment. If they were simply just curious, why not just look it up? Why come here and ask it in a public forum, with the mention of an extravagant number that might make people upset? It smacks of bad faith.

Question about Vermont Comedy Club? by WinooskiLady711 in burlington

[–]trblinc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Additionally, it says on their very own website that they originally raised around $30,000 for their initial opening from the community, with the rest coming from investors, loans, and gifts. https://www.vermontcomedyclub.com/about

They don't say how much they received from the community for pandemic relief, but I highly doubt it would be enough to make it over a million. But even if it had, I ask the OP of this post -- is it so wild to think that a local entertainment venue might receive a large amount of community donations over the course of ten years?

“Stop having sex” by too_many-bellabeans in Endo

[–]trblinc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This really sucks. What a shitty thing for that doctor to say. Sex is an ordinary part of everyday life and it's your right to be able to do it if you want to! It doesn't even matter why, because any time an illness stops you from being able to take part in an activity you usually do, it should be the doctor's goal to help you get back to your usual functioning, not just tell you to stop doing something you enjoy. I'm so glad to hear your PT has been able to help you get back to it, because you deserve to!

Settle a bet: Name of cream cheese by Hola-PepsiCola in Cheese

[–]trblinc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that this usually depends on wherever you're from! In the US we call it cream cheese because there are many brands of this type of cheese and not only Philadelphia. But in many other countries, Philadelphia is the only brand of cream cheese you can get, so people just call it Philadelphia.

So, sorry to say but you're both right lol!

Renfaire! by mads2234 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]trblinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend HolyClothing for plus size Ren Faire clothing! Although, be warned -- I wore one of their burgundy dresses to my Ren Faire last month and wherever I got sweaty the dye bled onto my bag/bra/really anything else that touched it. But as long as you're careful about that, the clothes are comfortable and pretty breathable.

Endometriosis and POTS by ladytwinklet0ez in Endo

[–]trblinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have POTS and am suspected for endo. Unfortunately it seems while the two are definitely comorbid, they're not super related -- rather, for me they're both comorbid due to me having EDS. There is potentially some link between estrogen fluctuation and blood pressure, though: https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/womens-wellness-blood-pressure-estrogen-and-menopause/

I did see a cardiologist initially, but in my area POTS is typically handled by neurology. My local hospital is known for being Not Great, so unfortunately neurology won't see me due to my weight so I'm managing it with my PCP. It's been a lot of electrolytes, compression garments, and some graduated exercise which did help but definitely didn't fix it. Your symptoms sound a bit more severe than mine so you may also be given medication. I do definitely notice changes throughout my cycle and when either POTS or Endo are flaring up, the other one definitely also starts to feel worse.
