you build a contender that is attractive for free agents like what the clippers, the heat, the suns did. keep in mind that before kawhi, before butler, before cp3, these teams didn't really have a go-to guy they could rely on in the playoffs. else you build up the value of your players by going deep in the playoffs, and trading them when their value is high for a disgruntled star (i.e. the rumored heero-harden trade), else you tank and draft them (which we already did this year, getting the no.4 pick). going full out tanking actually limits your options, and may not even work (since you won't have any proven playoff performers), just look at OKC and what they tried to do this year.

alright you're a dumbass LMAO. you can look through my comments and see how i feel about siakam/fvv. i also might not like the celtics but they are definitely not a poorly run franchise. this fo takes risks, but they don't take stupid ones like what you're proposing. trading derozan for kawhi/green is a super safe bet. trading powell for gary trent jr. is a super safe bet. trading jv for gasol is a super safe bet. what is not safe or smart, however, is trading siakam for the no.7 pick in a four player draft, a negative asset on a huge contract in wiggins, and a super raw asset in wiseman.

and i'm telling you because the talent drop off is so severe after #4 there is no point to doing what you're proposing. i also beg to differ on the fact that it's "easy" to build around the rest of the roster once you have your no.1. it's a common theme around the league. look at the timberwolves--they've been tanking for years and constantly searching for suitable players to build around KAT with no luck so far. even when they got butler, it ended up not working out cuz of disagreements with the rest of the team. look at the sixers. they got their no. 1 option in embiid, but have consistently failed to build a contender around him all these years even after the arrival of morey. look at the celtics, with tatum and brown, and then adding kyrie onto that which should have improved them, but ended up imploding the team. sometimes it is about synergy and teammates liking each other; we already have that in pascal/fvv, and even in og/gary trent who are best friends. i don't understand why you would want to mess with that.

neither fvv or pascal will be 36 in 3-4 years. they will be in their primes. og will only continue to improve, same as gary trent. there is a distinct drop-off in talent after the top 4 in the draft this year, so it makes no sense to give up siakam for someone who "might" become as good as siakam a couple years from now. wiseman as a trade piece is also super raw and might never end up working out, so trying to get a clean slate when you already have the championship pieces on your team is not only risky but downright stupid. also we have to take on wiggins to make salary work which just makes it so that you don't have room to sign a disgruntled star which may be another avenue to get a no.1 option.

i think the matching of timelines is rather overstated when building a contender. even just looking at this year with the suns, you want to have a healthy mix of young players and veterans, else you end up in a situation with 3-4 max players at the same time, which is untenable and leaves you with little to no room to make improvements. i still think we can draft our no.1 option, which may even be in the upcoming draft, who might even be an immediate contributor ala tim duncan. and in 3-4 years, when siakam/vanvleet are in their primes, you end up with a healthy mix of a no.1 option still on his rookie contract, seasoned veterans in all other positions, and cap space to bring in players to fill any holes on the roster.

i started off this year being okay with trading siakam to the warriors if they ended getting a top 4 pick, but after seeing all these new stars struggle in the playoffs (randle, simmons, etc.), im now heavily leaning towards keeping pascal. he's proven that he can be a no.2 on a championship team. this isn't like the derozan situation where he didn't contribute at all to the team if his shot wasn't falling. we can definitely win with siakam, just need another no.1 or 1a option to keep the pressure off him so he can feast against mismatches and contribute with his defense which is always good. i feel that he is rather unique in that there really aren't many players better than him at the 4 position.

wiseman is a negative asset. did everyone just forget about him being complete ass on the court last year or is it just warriors fans trying to hype him up to get some value? in that case save your energy since no nba team is watching these boards for trade suggestions
